the day this record is announced could be the last day this band exists. we'll see what happens. going to be a...not fun day on a lot of accounts

I didn't know whirr was on RFC so yeh that makes sense now why they're being like this

I'm all for Nandi supporting whoever she wants to support. I'm also all for people on here disagreeing with her. I'm not into this judgmental shit of shaming Nandi for making her own decisions about this situation.

    Maybe so, maybe not.

    What a shitshow.

tbh, i mean, rfc hasn't really done anything. it's been a strong nothing, no statement, total inaction.

i'm still very interested to see what happens when the band decides to return. because there is absolutely zero chance they'll come back without a huge statement about this all

I can't even imagine why people want to work with him. He's such a massive piece of shit how can his band mates stand being around him? (They're probably just as bad)

Consider that some of the people who are judging Nandi have a bigger picture of this situation than just Evan’s statement and don’t understand why she’d want to publicly support him and his music

  10. Yeah Nick is still in Nothing. He’s just not a touring member. They filmed a music video not too long ago and he was hanging around the set and was at Applebee’s afterwards getting hammered with everyone

  11. Double post.

Has RFC ever made a comment outside of Whirr?

there was a sort of thing when turnover came back but that was mostly just sharing their post

  13. I feel like that label in particular should be speaking out more about that stuff.

Especially considering some of the bands on their roster often do.

Is the new Pinegrove album even coming out on RFC, though? I'm pretty sure that label had a major marketing plan for that release, too. They were probably not happy to see it all go up in smoke because of Evan.

It’s astounding to me that they put out the Camp Cope record given their track record on these things

RFC, like most business (labels are a business) are more worried about the bottom line than anything. Labels who do the right thing are the ones who you know aren't in it for the money. I can only think of a handful of labels that I would say probably aren't in it for the money.

Okay. But I just feel like there's a distinction that these conversations are beginning to lose sight of, between 1) disagreeing with somebody's choices, and expressing disappointment or confusion or anger with those choices while not assuming to know every piece of that person's decision-making process, and 2) devaluing/disregarding them as human beings, who should be allowed to make their own informed decisions about things in their own personal lives.

When you say that people who are judging Nandi have a "bigger picture of this situation" you are implying that Nandi does not have that bigger picture, or that she is refusing to acknowledge what really happened. I'm saying it doesn't seem productive in any way to insert ourselves into Nandi's choices and talk about "bigger pictures" as if she isn't fully capable of engaging with the biggest picture she has access to and coming away from it with an informed decision of her own.

I didn't see anyone devalue Nandi as a human being, just expressing disappointment

youve gotta assume this album won't come without a statement on the state of Evan and his progress right? if they're gonna have the gall to put it out traditionally (like I said I'm okay with a completely free release with no touring behind it, not sure if I'd even listen though) they've got to let people know what's up behind the scenes.

Fair enough, that is probably a mischaracterization/exaggeration on my part. It just seems so predictable in a not-so-great way that our first responses to her comments, as followers of her music, seem to convey that we don't trust her to make her own decisions in a situation that she is more involved in than we are... that we think we know better than she does or something.

it's not about her decisions, it's that she's praising a man who is an admitted abuser saying she'd always work with him. that totally devalues victims right there

Good discussions here and I think it’s a pretty healthy approach to this sort of thing.

I hope we get a statement as well, I think that would be important to communicate to people how he is improving himself.

How would people feel about an album and no tour.. like we are putting this out but Evan is not ready to perform shows yet he is continuing to work on his rehabilitation.

I mean, I really don't think she was carefully calculating her words and evaluating them as praise/not praise and then delivering them for the purpose of what people would think of them

the context was whether Pinegrove would release new music and she answered that question and then honestly stated where she was at with collaborating/not collaborating and how she felt about working with Evan (which is a natural thing to say, in that situation)

it seems like it would make sense to fault her for continuing to collaborate with Evan and/or feeling how she feels, but not specifically for the action of articulating any of those things, which is what I think is happening here.
