I'm with you here, and for now it seems as though Evan is generally trying to get help, so I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt.

I'll reassess as I think appropriate if and when another statement from anyone involved/related comes out, or if the band just decides to continue on without addressing it (which I doubt they would do).

 

I don’t think he would have made that garbage, intentionally vague and misleading public statement if he had any intention of trying to be better. That’s my $0.02 but idk. I’m willing to give the benefit of the doubt that people can get better, and I think it’s necessary, but I have no interest in continuing to support this person’s music

 

Ugh. There's a thread re: this situation going on in /r/emo right now and a lot of the comments are just so fucked and discouraging. So many people blindly taking Evan at his word and implying if anything really happened then the victim would have refuted him by now.

 

Love this. I don't follow Pinegrove so I don't have a dog in this fight in that regard, but I have enough of a past to feel invested in this conversation. The best case scenario in a situation like this (where presumably nothing criminal has gone on) is for Evan to be reconciled with those he's hurt, put to death dirty habits, and continue playing music as a changed man. The best case scenario is NOT for him to be exiled from the music industry prematurely and never reconciled with the victim.

I think it's so easy to be disillusioned in our current landscape and jump to the latter scenario and exact justice out of disappointment. But who does that really help? It just makes everyone miserable in the end, right?

 

Hard fucking pass. Considering what this band meant to me a year ago and what they mean now... damn it all to hell.

I won't accept anything less than full transparency from the band going forward. Evan did something wrong and he's admitted to that at least, but honestly it looks more likely that this all will be swept under the rug rather than be addressed by Evan or the band in more than vague, wishy-washy bullshit terms.

 

Hey, did you guys ever think that they maybe the reason he was vague was because the victim didn't want the details to be public? That's got to have some merit because they still haven't come out and clarified exactly what happened.

So guess what, it's none of your business because you weren't the victim and what you want from Evan in this situation doesn't fucking matter =). Regardless of if you ever listen to this band again, the victim comes first.

Sure, but let's not act like this has zero impact on the fans too? Obviously the victim comes first, I feel most people who use this site regularly get that. But this band means a lot to fans, people are allowed to be upset and conflicted over this.

 

Sure, but if what you want goes against what the victim wants then what you or any fan wants doesn't matter at all.

 

Of course the victim comes first, but notwithstanding any of that Evan's statement was extremely disappointing and the band now get to carry on as if nothing happened, with a new record on the way and a bunch of UK dates apparently still in play for March? That's pretty fucked.

I hope Phoebe Bridgers is able to set something else up for herself when she's meant to be in the UK supporting this band in March - she doesn't strike me as the kind of person who would feel comfortable opening for Pinegrove after what happened. She's still flying over and loses quite a bit of money if she pulls her support slot with no plan B.

 

I've wondered about that too. She's one of my favorite new artists, I'm interested in seeing how she responds.

 

Could Phoebe Bridgers not headline these shows instead and find another support?

 

There's a lot that means this would be quite tough - bear in mind there are people who bought tickets to these shows, some of which I believe are sold out who undoubtedly and obviously only bought them for Pinegrove. To bill a completely different show would mean a whole load of technicalities and processes in ticketing refunds, re-sales etc. I hope she can do her own thing though and play other venues/some of these still.

I do have the feeling that everything is going ahead as planned though at this stage, gotta be honest. But I hope we get something else soon. I'm still trying to decide what to do if the London show does go ahead.

 

No way she could even slightly fill these rooms, I'm guessing she'd have to make an entirely new tour in much smaller venues.

just a heads up, evan made a statement after the victim made a post that was deleted on her facebook page the night before that used a lot of the same language. his self-serving statement went on for way too long, all he had to say was that he was cancelling the tour to figure some things out and it didn't have to be focused on himself.

however, i think it's fine to not judge the actions going forward until we actually see what happens. i'll guarantee you that it won't just be sweeping under the rug because this band has gotten by with how supported by the community they are and if he just tries to come back out, the band won't play with him. pretty sure. he'll be a solo act. and RFC will be in some deep shit too. so at this point, just relax, nothing has changed, we'll see what happens next. i still don't think this tour is happening

 

I completely agree, but I think you're conflating two different things.

A fan saying "i just want the band back and a new album etc" is shitty.

A fan feeling let down and grieving the loss of an artist is legitimate and healthy and doesn't inherently deny the victim their recovery.

I just want us to be careful that we're not jumping down the throats of conscientious fans who are dealing with this in an honest way. I recognise that out there in internet-land there's a lot of people who don't respond to these situations in a way that thinks of the victim. By and large this community does a far better job, so can we not have a bit of good faith with people here?

 

Two months out from the tour you'd hope that if alternative arrangements were to be made, she'd have everything sorted first before announcing them. Let's see what happens - maybe she can support other bands playing the UK around then or something? IDK.

 

that reddit says the albums been pushed to June and to expect a similar statement as to what we got from Turnover last year. IDK if that would be good enough for everyone and its a different situation bc the member was removed from the band.

 

rumors are stupid until things actually happen, just hold up and wait. Literally can not be like turnover’s situation because there is no band if this was a turnover situation.

 

pheobe literally just retweeted an ad for the shows so ..........
