yeah its not a pissing contest as to whos favs are most woke or most pure, i adored Pinegrove and this really really stings, its very disheartening and one-upping by posting how awesome your favs are isnt helping anyone.

The fact that no other members have said anything or that RFC hasn't said anything tells me one of two things.

    A. Both of the parties above are trying to gather all information to handle how to move forward. If it is taking days, something tells me this situation is more nuanced than it looks on the surface level.

    B. They are going to go dark in hopes that when they come back there aren't a lot of people that are going to bother bringing it up.

    I hope it's A.

foolish to think option B would be a good idea in this climate and state of awareness

Yeah, I could see that option for a band like Pierce the Veil (not surprised that them/Fearless would do that) but RFC sound handle this a lot better than other labels you would think.

I don’t think that’s really what’s happening. It seems more like people holding onto hope that their favorite artists are good people than people bragging about a favorite band not having any accusations against them. That’s just my two cents though. I’m still processing this. Cardinal was an album I got into and listened to almost exclusively after my friend passed away last year. Since then I’ve seen them once and they’ve been one of the artists I throw on when I can’t decide what to listen to. Based on the information we have I don’t think I’ll be listening again. I hope the victim is ok, I can’t imagine what it’s like to go through something like this.

Doesn't seem like a pissing contest to express who gives you hope in response to someone expressing a lack of hope. It's not one-upping or a competition.

i wouldn't give RFC any credit here after how long they sat on the turnover and nothing/whirr stuff but someone like nandi and other members of pinegrove wouldn't be sitting and waiting and going dark without a reason

Man, sucks for the girl's original boyfriend too. Like Max from Say Anything said, infidelity is emotional abuse.

(Though I guess coercion changes everything? Not really sure how to digest that part... At least all this tragic shit is forcing numbskulls like myself to think through a lot.)

this isnt the thread for that stuff. it doesnt really matter who gives you "hope" or w/e that means when we all thought Pinegrove was pure and the exception to what is, unfortunately, demonstrably being shown as the rule. by all means take solace in the artists you love but the victim and the many other victims of these types of encounters are more important than your woke favs

This whole thing still is just so strange. Was the girl in question even going to being this up at all or did she or did she not want her name and personal business out there? also find it kind of telling that artists/people around bands are straight up saying Evan is a garbage human.

None of them were intended to be smug and I don't think any of them came off like that. There's no need to be condescending and keep this thing going. I apologize if that wasn't the place for what I said and I won't bring it up again.

A more helpful way to approach it is if you have a favorite band you can't listen to anymore try to find a new band to love

Totally agree with that. The statement was confusing and intentionally misleading. Probably the worst thing Evan ever penned and super easy to see right through if you take a closer look. Really interested to see the other band members chime in because all we've got so far is this smoke-screen of an apology.

Just remembered only last week I was encouraging one of my female teenage guitar students to check this band out. Feeling pretty gross about that now...

I kinda feel that with all the allegations and scandals coming out I'm realising that as a society we're getting better at handling this stuff but we've still got so far to go. Each new case we read about has a new nuance that causes me to reevaluate how I approach the whole subject. We have the tendency to want everything to be black and white, but it's all so grey and uncertain.

Saw a tweet from a dude selling his pinegrove albums.

"Discogs is a great place to exploit ppl who don't hold shitty band dudes accountable :)"

I think this is an extremely poor attitude. And I've seen on this site people are hesitant to sell their records because they feel they're going into the hands of ignorant truthers or whatever, and I want to reassure anybody who feels that way that it probably wouldn't be the case. I would definitely buy someone's Pinegrove albums. This does not mean I support them or don't hold them accountable. I'm a normal person, with a high stress job, a busy life, and things on my plate that are more pertinent to me than the indie scene. I like the music and think I'd enjoy owning the albums down the road. Simple as that. This does not make me a monster. And I object to the smug notion that I'm being exploited because I'm providing you fair value for something you want to rid yourself of in the first place. I haven't seen that type of rhetoric here but I hope nobody thinks this way.

Anybody selling their Pinegrove records better be doing the same for the Beatles records, Zeppelin records, Metallica records, and practically any other popular band that has sold out an arena for the despicable, humiliating things they did to women "groupies" (or the women in their lives in general) at some point or another. The facts that we have at this point are that Evan apparently had sex with a consenting adult and may or may not be an asshole based on vague tweets from people who may or may not have pure intentions. But yeah, let's set their records on fire, have them dropped from their label, and let them fade into oblivion... of course, where do you draw the line in areas like this? I'm typing on a Macbook right now, supporting a company created by Steve Jobs who, from an outsider's view, was despicable to his paternal daughter and a manipulative piece of shit in general. So does this get thrown on the bonfire or am I good to keep it?

I apologize for the harsh tone here if that's how this comes off, I'm just totally against what I feel are knee-jerk, emotional based reactions that I frankly disagree with.

Throw it on the bonfire to avoid posting shit like this.

Why are you so angry that someone doesn't feel comfortable supporting someone who has admitted to causing a great deal of pain to another human being?

Why are you trying to create this weird double standard when, if you have been paying attention, these conversations have been happening where a lot of people here are literally confronting the fact that we've supported a lot of shitty individuals (like The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Metallica, etc...) and probably shouldn't anymore.

What are you trying to accomplish here? Are you really trying to get people not to support shitty people that have gotten a pass for years, or are you trying to stop this conversation so we will overlook the harmful things that Evan has done and the concerning vagueness of his "apology" that was posted without the victims consent?

Honestly I think telling people how they should feel or act in response to a situation is incredibly dumb and worse than supporting or not supporting these artists. Who are you to give people an ultimatum on who they choose to support or not, or to decide what the criteria is for what gets thrown into the bonfire?

You don’t sound harsh, you sound like an ass.
