I will say in my initial reading of the statement thinking that the part about knowing who in the crowd wants to fuck was pretty creepy and predatory so I assume that something more sinister will come out probably.

 

Hopefully RFC does the right thing and drops Pinegrove

 

I've been seeing a lot of that. The worst one being somebody posting a tweet that was modified by the user who sen it out so it was harder find with the search function on a wildly popular platform.

 

a. Josh commented on horrible Facebook comments. What's wrong with that?

b. Josh didn't do anything. Ricky did. And it was hardly anything at all. One individual does not act for an entire band. Especially when it happened before they were even a band

 

I must have misread what Josh said if he just commented on the FB comments. Again I said that the Foxing stuff wasn't really anything at all. I like Foxing I wasn't trying to shit on them.

Are you saying RFC should have dropped Evan/Pinegrove a long time ago? Has there been predatory stuff in the past?

I've refrained from passing comment so far because I'm finding this situation so confusing, and so much has already been said in this thread. That statement is so ambiguous and is either Evan being over cautious, trying to set himself to a high standard, or it's pre-empting something much worse. My initial reaction was to want to believe the former option, but judging by some of the people here who seem to know more I'm getting worried that this will be much more serious. Certainly going as far as to cancel the whole tour suggests that this is substantial.

I've got to approach this honestly and with humility - pinegrove has without a doubt been the most important music to me over the last 12 months. It's very easy to talk big about these situations when it's a step removed - Brand New/Louis CK are people whose work ive enjoyed but not fanatically - but this case it's time to put my money where my mouth is.

I'm suspending pinegrove pending further information. I'm not prepares to write them off while things are so vague, but having said that I have to take seriously the comments about assessing whether people would sleep with him - that's clearly inappropriate and a misuse of his position. In any other line of work I wouldn't hesitate in saying they don't belong in that job.

Sigh. This all sucks.

This whole situation sucks. What also sucks is I felt this band was on the cusp of being the next trend setter for the scene. Not just in terms of sound/performance, but everything I’ve seen of them they seemed so damn genuine. Their live show looked to be some of the most energetic, and honest performances I’ve ever seen. I really looked forward to seeing them one day. Now with that comment he made it’s clearly the most disingenuous performance possibly. Was really looking forward to this album. Welp.

Hope his victim isn’t being harassed. Like apparently the BN victims were.

 

Yeah I mean I don’t know what to think about the rest of the band either. I’d like to give them the benefit of the doubt about what they knew, and if they didn’t know anything then they probably don’t really know what kind of statement to make, if they want to make one. They’re in a weird situation.

 

Still think he can be rehabilitated but I agree I thought he was a really nice guy from interviews and performances, goes to show that as a fan you have no clue.

 

i do think it's interesting how less of a state of shock this place was for this, even though this one seems far more surprising than brand new on paper. just shows how people are becoming more and more expectant of this sort of thing happening

I think it's also the lack of information the community has, which is preventing people from truly writing off this band. Like you said, people are becoming more expectant--I think people have figured out how they individually cope with news like this.

As for me, I think there was a place for their art in my heart; it was very important to me at the time and it still very much is... but I'm cutting my support for them now. When more news comes out, we'll see about that then. The vagueness of the statement Evan made turned me off, made it seem like he was protecting himself by over-intellectualizing something that should be pretty simple.
