Perhaps we was trying to make a statement to get ahead of any possible future information that would have been made public after canceling the tour due to "personal issues" You know people would have speculated even more if the reason was even more vague.
In light of what you now know and without revealing any further details, do you still believe forgiveness/redemption is possible here?
Serious and honest question. Not asking in terms of this specific situation that we actually don’t know much about. Asking in terms of some of the things discussed in this thread. Isn’t it maybe a little offensive to assume that a woman/man is unable to make their own decisions about wanting to have a sexual relation with a band member because the member is in a position of power? Some have insinuated that band/fan relationships are all together inappropriate. Im pretty sure I disagree with that sentiment whole heartedly.
I don't know how to feel about this and it's been weighing on me all day. Given that all we have to go off of is Evan's statement, we don't know what he did or the severity of it. However I recognize that may have been his intention in releasing a statement before his accuser came forward publicly. I will say he sounds genuinely remorseful, but again without context that doesn't say much and he may only be trying to save face by omission. I think forgiveness and acceptance by his audience should hinge on how serious the accusation is, what harm was done to the victim and her current wellbeing, and what growth he shows, if any.
I won’t link them, but Nothing is tweeting about them now. Someone made a reference to Whirr being dropped by RFC “for making jokes”, but that RFC won’t drop Pinegrove because they are their biggest band. Nothing replied, “I see you.” I think that’s enough for me from that band. @cwhit tried to warn me earlier today.
Playing Devil's advocate here, but former tourmate Petal tweeted this earlier, seemingly regarding Evan:
Yeah, I hope the quotations made it clear those are NOT my words, but the wording used in the tweets. I couldn’t personally disagree with something more.
For context (and not defending them or their actions in the past), a 'fan' tweeted that, not the band themselves I'd be pretty surprised if RFC stuck with Pinegrove after this.
Yea but she was saying it about Evans statement. As in the abuser is only one side of the story. As in she probably supports the other side of the story.
Interesting post about this on Reddit in the indieheads thread for this news. Someone talked about the woman involved.
The Lolita tweet, wtaf?? At first I was starting to think he was just really socially awkward with some of this stuff but the evidence that it’s more sinister than that seems to be mounting up. This article is a really good read btw on the myth of the ‘bumbling’ man: The myth of the male bumbler
Just seeing this news and it's such a confusing statement. I feel there definitely has to be way more to it than what Evan's statement implies. I find it kind of odd that someone in foxing would comment since they had their own run in with sexual controversy did they not?
Also feel dumb since after the Brand New story broke I tweeted out something like "Please Pinegrove don't let me down too" and now this. Kind of weird that these bands are all sort of related to Kevin Devine tangentially.
I just want to say that even though we can piss eachother off at times when discussing delicate subjects such as this, I'm super proud to be a part of this community. Everybody(most) here are fantastically intelligent and poignant with the content of their posts. I guarantee that some lurkers skimming through threads like this and the BN thread are learning to be more nuanced and sensitive through content on this site. It's my girlfriends birthday and I'm many whiskeys deep. Cheers, y'all.
I remember thinking it wasn't a huge deal, still find it kind of funny they would be quick to comment when they have a past as a band of something sexual they felt they needed to apologize for.
