But like Casey mentioned a few posts ago, this is basically the production on like half of Everything So Far. I think this band is bound to get pretty big even if they put out an album sounding like this, they’re gaining so much coverage right now. Even just since cardinal has come out they’ve gotten so much bigger. Waaaay bigger, like pitchfork didn’t even cover cardinal now they’re all over this band. Also though, I think you could be right. I could see this not being on the album, or perhaps being a demo. Kinda like ESF Size of the moon version.
yeah it sounds like Cardinal and Meridian and most of the other songs. I kinda want this to be another 8 track record just because i like that kind of consistency but also i want as much material as possible so catch me with that Pinegrove double album soon
my Sputnikmusic review of Cardinal was like the 10th most viewed review on that site in 2016 so yeah theyre gaining a lot of traction very quickly and im very happy to have contributed to that because they deserve the best
Yea.. I think people wanted a step up tho.. I know I did.. will I still enjoy the song? Of course. But given their momentum it made sense for them to have, better gear and better production this time around. I still don’t think this track will be on the album tho. So maybe there’s a reason it was released as a tide over for now.
when songs aren't big catchy poppy anthems it's usually harder for me to enjoy out of context, it's not an immediate song to me and that doesn't take away from it, just need time
god damnit japandroids and cloud nothings are literally the same band in so many regards lol except cloud nothings are better
This is what I'm thinking is most likely. It is either all going to sound like this, or this is a demo version. I think its about 60-40 that this is how its all gonna sound though.
were you all expecting a Pinegrove record with radio rock sheen or something? this sounds cozy and intimate and highlights the best qualities of the band. I wish they would lean to a slightly more lo-fi sound personally.
Song is really cool tho, enough about the production. Those switches in tempo and feel are so awesome
I wanted better sounding guitars/drums and the vocals pushed up a bit in the mix. Not crazy but enough for me to make out more of the lyrics
i don't at all because of what evan said at the pingus tour about that song/short songs in general, that song in particular was one where he wrote one part and liked it a lot and another part and liked it less so cut out the parts that weren't his favorite and boom. short songs
They could record the whole album on an I phone and if the songs were good enough it would still be my aoty ha. I just am selfishly wanting to hear more parts.
I honestly have no idea what could even challenge it for AOTY 2018 for me. If Pianos somehow stepped up and wrote a better record than Keep You, MAYBE.
yeah that's what I'm trying to get at, my comment wasn't directed at you and I know you like a lot of clarity in the music you listen to. I just hate how parts of this site get more worked up about what a mix sounds like than the songs themselves, especially considering production choices are generally intentional and maybe the band didn't want them to sound cleaner
