I’m actually really glad they didn’t take a 6 year break from releasing music and then come back with more of the same. I like the pivot a lot. Excited to hear what the rest of this will sound like. Also yeah, pretty sure they just kicked Mike out and didn’t really talk about it again.
Yeah this is a great comeback imo. Love the production and new direction from them. Also produced/co-written by Paul Meany of Mutemath which is cool.
I think it's pretty cool. Definitely makes sense that it's a pretty big shake up after the time away. Misadventures wasn't bad, but definitely was their least interesting album so it kind of seems like the well had run dry in that sound. This sounds different without totally losing who they are
I really didn’t like misadventures so it’s wild to think it’s been nearly a decade since I’ve enjoyed a release by them
Was gonna post a link to the new single last night but wasn’t sure what the correct thread was since these guys have been largely out of the picture for like 5 years now? It’s wild how popular they still are on social media despite this. Anyways, I actually like this single (Vic’s vocals sound so much better and less whiney) and it looks like Mike is definitely out which is good too.
Misadventures was the band catering to their Hot Topic audience and aside from a few tracks like Dive In, Floral & Fading, and Phantom Power - I found the record extremely underwhelming. Collide With The Sky is still a banger of a record though!
I've never listened to this band. However, I did when they were called Before Today. Was pretty into that band. Saw them live with like 12 other people lol. Bassist and I just talked about Silent Drive. Which just found out through digging they just came out with a new album in June??? What the actual fuck. First since their 2004 debut. What a weird day lol.
Collide With the Sky was my first exposure to Jason Butler, so I'll always thank PTV for being my gateway to letlive.
Very interesting I like that they are changing it up, kind of reminds me of that band North Korea or NK remember them?
YES You’re on the ball with that comparison and I love NK so much. Nothing To Be Gained Here is a masterpiece.
Oh I actually really like Misadventures lol, Today I Saw the Whole World especially. But then I dropped them after that whole Mike situation and quasi bringing him back for a bit/not talking about it and blocking people on socials Kicking him out for good is nice but without any discussion of it or their previous behavior with it all feels a bit like a backhanded action, somewhat hollow even if the right thing was done.
first listen of this was definitely... interesting... wasn't sure if i liked it. but, it's growing on me a lot already and i'm pretty interested in how the rest of their new material will sound!
Haven’t listened to the single yet but I thought misadventures was actually a return to form. Such a fun guitar album.
They were definitely ahead of the curve with the whole new Nu metal thing that's popular now. I need to give Misadventures a listen I'm not sure I ever have.
I actually really like Misadventures. The Divine Zero is one of my favorite songs to destroy my vocals chords singing along to when driving. I realize rankings are way overdone on this site, but this is how I see their discography: A Flair for the Dramatic > Misadventures > Collide with the Sky > Selfish Machines I feel bad ranking Selfish Machines that low because I really like that album, but I think this band is just really consistent.
Selfish Machines is their best album and it’s not really that close imo, didn’t like the remixing job that was done on the reissue though New song is pretty immediately one of my least favorite songs by them. Oh well listen to Lowcountry for anyone who wants to hear this sound done well. the guys in EOTC missed a huge career imo
i can’t say I listened to it much, I just remember it not sticking really well save for a couple songs. I should revisit it. Regardless though it felt like they were already post-peak popularity (or maybe they weren’t, idk, it just felt like it lol) at that point so I hoped misadventures would be reinvigorating.
Interesting! I view misadventures as the post peak album - they were absolutely massive during the King for a Day cycle, and maintained that level with Misadventures. I’d revisit, some cool proggy moments on there
