I feel like he's been great ever since TTWTWM and Floral Green. Those had a "vibe" that I understand why some don't like it, but he's been ace since then.
Yeah I don't mind some of the records he's done (floral green, pale horses, after the party, rooms of the house) but for me he's real hit or miss. I enjoyed how the earlier Pianos albums had a bit more space/ambience. Live they retained it, but i don't think he captured it well personally on Wait for Love or Keep You (I still like both records, just wouldn't have wanted those production choices personally).
Kyle and Zac are on the rigs of dad podcast this week. Really great episode with lots about the new record on there. So interesting as it digs into their recording/writing process. It seems wild to me that keep you was put together instrumentally and then just given to Kyle to do the vocals on top. Also gets into why he stopped screaming and it’s just because the music the band write didn’t suit it! Really great listen
