Okay I think I’m at that moment where I’m realizing now special keep you is. I didn’t start listening to it until 2015 and it was on and off.. since then I play it every now and then, but I’ve been through it 4 times in 24 hours and I think this is going to be heavily in my rotation this fall. I love how the songs build, I love those little repeated vocal phrases that are super catchy.
I remember liking it a lot more than I expected to upon first listen but it’s brilliance definitely took a bit more time. It’s packed with great vocal melodies you might not notice right away. Vocals kinda stole the show for me.
The drums are incredible too, a lot of really complicated parts that sound super chill and fit really well
I love how everyone falls in love again with this album every fall. It was only the other day that I was harping on about it on Instagram. Was very happy that it made a handful of friends cave and finally check it out.
hearing these songs live take the album and band to a new level. one of the best live bands I've seen, always such and intense and cathartic experience. spinning Keep You now...
Listening to repine now, great song. Funny this album is on my “friends are listening to” list on Apple Music. Really must be a seasonal thing.
I first listened to this album in the spring, so I always associate it with that time of year. It's funny how things work out. I can see how it'd be nice to play in the fall though.
Same. Im listening to the commentary with the songs playing after the commentary piece about the song.
The most interesting part is hearing Dave talk about how hard it was for him to nail some of these patterns down. It really proves that sometimes it's harder to dial back and play what the song calls for compared to unleashing like he does on the first two albums.
Another hardcore band that really mastered this technique was Fear Before the March of Flames on their album The Always Open Mouth. gud shiiiiit
So something I've wondered: does anyone else think the riff that starts around 2 minutes into Enamor Me sounds a lot like the intro to Balance and Composure's Reflection?
Aside from repine which songs seem to be the favorites? Mine are ripple, late lives, enamor, queen, and say nothing, though that’s already half the record and I almost added more. Only one I’m not crazy about is lesions.
I think if I had to choose a couple, it would be April, Repine, Late Lives, The Queen, Say Nothing, and 695.
