hot mulligan, arms length, Ben quad, and flight mode are a few newer bands that I love just as much as I loved that 2010s wave of emo bands
Thanks, Hot Mulligan was the only one of those I'm familiar with, and they feel like one of those bands that checks all the boxes and I SHOULD like them, but something hasn't fully clicked yet. I'll check out the rest too. Once I'm done listening to Separation for the upteenth time thinking, "this is perfect"
895 is the prime example of a b-side just as good if not better than individual songs on an album but left off because sequencing with it included didn't work.
The Deluxe is the first version I heard so the album feels “incomplete” without the added songs, but I do feel like they all are great additions and examples of what you’re saying.
You might’ve already listened to them, but Caracara & Stay Inside have similar vibes as some of the bands you’ve mentioned
Man, I feel this so much. I feel very much stuck in the past on this type of music. As much as I want to support new and younger bands, go to shows, etc, I find it harder to connect with as I get older and just keep hoping the same bands I love manage to keep going and putting out new music. I find myself just getting into post-rock and other instrumental genres more often nowadays. (and can we add Moving Mountains and Gates to that list)
I love PBTT’s 3 newest albums so much. I’ve listened to TLLA a few times and like it but it’s a bit much to listen to very often. I’ve never actually listened to old pride
When the drift singles came out, I didn’t know how I felt about them but now I love that album as much as anything else they’ve ever done
Filial has one of my favorite guitar riffs ever in the bridge, and Cripples Can't Shiver is an absolutely heartbreaking highlight as well.
Yeah I have checked them out. I felt like Stay Inside's first EP had a lot of promise, but where they went from there has not been my cup of tea. Caracara is one I need to relisten to soon.
Caracara's New Preoccupations was my album of the year for 2022. I also second the Arm's Length and Stay Inside recs. Stay Inside's album that just came out has some strong TWIABP vibes. For other newer stuff I'd recommend awakebutstillinbed, Barely Civil, Home Is Where, and, moving more toward the punk/hardcore side of things, Anxious (I've seen them compared to Title Fight), Fiddlehead, and Militarie Gun.
Echoing the Caracara love. New Preoccupations is such an important album to me. Easily my favorite of 2022 and an all-timer for me. Incredible album
all the bands mentioned in here are great choices, shouts caracara in particular, goated band of goated people
Let’s use this thread to manifest a PBTT and Caracara tour. Also if anyone here hasn’t, I highly recommend checking out Dave and Mike’s other project, The Shenandoah Electric Company. You can definitely hear how some of that informed the sound of Drift:
It’s a really cool record. Not an everyday listen kind of thing, but super creative and interesting, especially when you read the story on their Bandcamp page about how it ultimately came together.
