Definitely engaging with this. Skiv and Mouth are my early favourites. Just glad I can still listen to these guys after making a tit of myself at their gig.
i definitely enjoy skiv alot more in context. it's gonna be 90+ degrees and clear skies all next week so i might shelve this til it cools down. haven't been able to connect much w/ it.
Finally listened to this and I think everyone’s first listen needs to be in the dark, stoned, and with headphones; “Buckley” is my favorite at the moment.
the rhythm section here is just doing so much heavy lifting. not that the guitars arent amazing too but god damn like i mentioned earlier they really hone into that meditative state and ride out these awesome rhythms. i dont like this word but its definitely a 'vibe' album in the best way. whoever compared it to infinite granite was pretty spot on.
i was gonna say anyone thinking this will shine more when the weather gets cold needs to take it for a late night walk right now. its flawless.
There's love that longs for more There's loss we can't afford Before we burn and finally leave The smoke and clouds will look the same I'll be the dust in your lungs as I drift away just stunning the lyrics of mouth are really getting to me as well considering i just mutually ended a six year relationship Cheers together and drift off alone Never let you forget, when you left me too soon Seeing your love into the next room We cheers forever, as if we're already gone
Mouth is my favorite right now, but this thing is stunning. One of those albums that each new listen you discover something else.
It’s interesting how much better the reception is here compared to sputnik music. A friend of mine sent me this review, the writer just didn’t get the record at all, but it seems like the ratings and comments agree. https://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/85445/Pianos-Become-the-Teeth-Drift/
Yeah I found the Sputnik community's reaction at odds with what I expected. I'd been keeping up with this thread on chorus.fm ahead of my first listens yesterday and was really excited to listen. I personally love it like many in this thread and it clicked immediately and continues to grow on me after 4 listens. I then went sniffing around for some reviews and was surprised to see barely any from music publications. Even more surprising was Sputnik's reaction to it though. They are usually quite well aligned with our community...
I was just browsing Sput too and was kind of surprised. I do feel like this site and that site can be hive minds at times, but Sput definitely seems to love hating on stuff more.
The vibe of this album is definitely dark and dense, I think it takes the right listening experience and mood for it to click. The songwriting and production are stellar, but it's pretty consistently a "downer" album, and that's not what I'm always going to be in the mood for. But happy to add it to the collection of when I am.
Working remote today and sitting on the back deck watching the wind blow through the forest trees with this album on in the background. I love this album so much.
