Phoenix – “Alpha Zulu”

Not a bad song, but just makes me reflect on the lightning they captured in a bottle for Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. Nothing they've put out since has captured me even remotely as close for more than a listen or two.

 

After listening to this new track, I came here to say basically word for word what you just said.

 

So wild to me that this band headlined Madison Square Garden in 2010 yet in 2017 they were playing residencies at theaters.

 

Eck I kind of hate this. Wolfgang was great if not a bit too samey. My personal favorite was Bankrupt! Didn't have as obviously immediate singles like Wolfgang, but track for track it's very good.

This feels more like their last album where melodies took a huge backseat to dancey rhythm and grooves (except for J-Boy, that song was lots of fun).

 

I feel that exact same; I don't think Bankrupt! got the commercial success it deserved.
