Finally gave this album a listen after seeing so many people raving on about it for so long. Wow, I am dumb.
One does not simply choose between Funeral, Scott Street and Georgia for their song of the year. Seriously though I’ve narrowed it down to those three.
Lol. The truth is you could put this album on shuffle and essentially any song from this album could play and I’d be like yeah that’s my song of the year. Point is I love this album.
I probably vote for Scott Street as my fav on the record. Maybe of the year. Though that cover at the end is so damn good too. Sometimes I wish it was an original of hers.
smoke signals is my favorite (followed by motion sickness and scott street) but since it hasn't really been mentioned i've been feeling chelsea on some windows down-heat up-wintry sunset drives. there's that part towards the tail end where beat gets louder at "and you can call the service bell..." that does things to me in particular. and "so long prison boy, i won't be home with you tonight" i feel like that line's been with me all my life
If there's one song on the record I don't LOVE as much as the rest of them, it's probably "Demi Moore."
They're all terrific, but Smoke Signals is my favorite. So many great moments in one song. I just love Phoebe's haunting delivery of the line "that song will creep you out until your dead" and the line (in general) about Bowie.
