Not ashamed to say I totally sat alone in my apartment sobbing when that song came on, just couldn't even handle it. Pretty sure it needed to hit that point before I could even feel comfortable listening to the record again. So special from start to finish.
Love her version of You Missed My Heart for sure, but I’d never heard the original and didn’t realize it was a cover for a week until I read through this thread, I went and listened to the original and it managed to hit me even harder. I’ve kinda avoided Kozalek’s music bc I’ve heard a lot of things I don’t like about his persona, but that song is unquestionably one of the best songs I’ve heard.
listened to this for the time first over the weekend. it's soooo good! her voice reminds me so much of @nfdv2
I interviewed Mark Kozelek. He called me a ‘bitch’ on stage Meredith Graves Condemns Mark Kozelek’s Diss Track And The Language Of Abuse Just google his name and you'll find a lot of reasons why he's awful. Great songwriter, awful human.
You don't have to. Honestly I had never heard anything before. I never listened to a Sun Kil Moon song until a few months ago and Benji kinda blew me away. My bad. I'll have to do some research of my own.
Yeah, this is some of the stuff I’m aware of. I doubt I would have ever willingly listened to his music if I hadn’t heard Phoebe’s cover and got curious.
I think of him as Jekyll & Hyde. He exhibits awful behavior on stage, and yet he still can write music showing he's fully capable of empathy and understanding. Despite his faults, I still encourage people to listen to Benji to at least have a full perspective - which all his fans should, the good & the bad.
"I Can't Live Without My Mother's Love" kills me, I simply can't listen to it. It's finally starting to feel like fall around here, Stranger.. and Benji are great autumn records. Phoebe's album keeps moving up in my top ten of the year.
Joint first this year in albums for me. Easily. edit: Actually not "easily" - I've been spoiled with great music this year, but still...
Will have to check out Hippo Campus, I'm surprised it's not Orlando Weeks album to be completely honest though. I've seen you mention I'm Not Your Man in the threads somewhere.
Haha I love that record but it's more of a multimedia type thing rather than qualifying as a musical album for me. I bought tickets to go and see it performed/red live at Christmas with a full band and choir though. Cannot wait.
