yea but every time she plays Kyoto it's great and done in a different way. this version is up there with the best
Listening to this again after a good break. I know it's been said, but this is such a defining record for our times, both musically and lyrically. The quietness and tension that carries most of the record really captures the feeling of being locked up and bored with nothing to do while insanity is happening around you. A surreal mixture of nothing and everything. And then "I Know The End" finally brings the release and it's both horrifying and cathartic. Like, "I've been sitting here quietly in my existential dread this whole time and now I'm letting it all out at once." Five years after the COVID-19 fiasco is over, if times aren't scarier by then, I'll listen to this record and immediately be transported back to this weird moment in history when it truly felt like the end. It's just amazing how it was released. It really speaks to the dread she was already feeling (along with the rest of us) that this thing was written before any of this happened. It feels like it was written in the middle of this moment, not before. It really is perfect.
Mark Hoppus had Phoebe Bridgers on his show yesterday. My two favorite musical worlds colliding! She shows up around 29 minutes. Mark Goes to Charlotte on Apple Music
I mostly didn’t ever stop listening to this, but now that the weather is cooling I will never stop listening to this.
listening to this again for the first time in a while and it's still so great. easily top 5 for this year.
Phoebe is the guest this week on Pete Holmes’ podcast, You Made It Weird. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/you-made-it-weird-with-pete-holmes/id475878118?i=1000492280984
Oh man that’s an amazing performance. Maybe the best late night performance I’ve seen....and Jeff Rosenstock was just the other night.
I hope Seth is telling the truth when he says it's one of his favorite albums of the year because that'd make him pretty cool in my book lol Such a cool performance, loved it. Always strange seeing Phoebe without a guitar
all of her TV performances have been so good and this was no exception. I finally set up my record player again after years of not using it and was thinking about updating my collection (I haven't bought a record in about five years) by buying Punisher. what's wrong with the vinyl pressing?
re: the vinyl quality it's just not very good. it gets very muddy in a lot of spots. i'm more than happy just to own the great variant i got but i will only play this on our living room bluetooth/homepod speakers.
