Phoebe is very clearly a comfortable sexual being and i think a lot of her fans take it to super weird extremes lol glad i am not the only one noticing weird fan behavior

I could be wrong but it seems like it’s her newer fans that are like this. I don’t remember this happening during her first album cycle (and prior to that) or even boygenius.

On a semi-related note, it's great that Phoebe has blown up the way she has (minus the gross fans), but I also hope when Julien and Lucy release their new albums they also blow up like Phoebe has.

Julien is, but Phoebe blew up in a bigger way that Julien and Lucy (to a lesser extent) has I feel and I hope Julien and Lucy reach that level on their next album, if that makes sense.

I am a big fan of Julien's music but I don't think she'll blow up in the same way Phoebe has. Phoebe's music is obviously very sad, but her ironic sense of humor makes a lot of her music bittersweet and easier to listen and relate to. Julien on the other hand touches on themes like religion, addiction and depression in a way that feels more somber and heavy. Her songs are usually very slow and less poppy/catchy too. Like, I can definitely see people using Phoebe's music on TikTok but not Julien's.

 

I noticed both Phoebe and Lucy Dacus have overtaken Julien in monthly Spotify listeners. Phoebe is obviously quite a way ahead of both, but I don't think I knew Lucy had that big of a following. Of course, I'm sure when Julien releases that new album her listeners will go up. I also know Spotify isn't the end-all-be-all gauge of popularity, I just thought it was interesting.

 

Part of it is probably that, with a couple exceptions, Julien’s music is very minimalist. Pretty much just her and a guitar or a piano. I think that inherently puts up a barrier for causal listeners who might find her to be to slow or boring or whatever.

 

Definitely, I just remember Phoebe and Lucy opening up for Julien, so mentally I still think of Julien first. It's crazy to think of listening to "Smoke Signals" when it released and it felt like no one knew who Phoebe was outside this site.

 

Also funny to think that two years ago Julien would always close out the “main sets” of the boygenius tour, before the encore. Have to think Phoebe would go last now.

 

I’m baffled that was 2 years ago...

 

Yeah if boygenius tour happened now the order would probably be Phoebe->Julien->Lucy
