her most near and dear collaborator is someone whose debut album came out before all the kids were even born
I was about to say the same thing lol, plus the other artists mentioned are all in their 20s too so it's not like they are that much younger either.
I really don’t want to rag too much on girl in red because I know a ton of people love her and she’s an outspoken queer artist, which is great, but I guess I just find her stuff... boring? Idk. It’s not that I think she’s bad, but I find her to be really unmemorable.
I'm not really on the Clairo train either, gave the album more than a few listens and it's enjoyable enough, but yeah "boring" isn't exactly a bad descriptor. On the flip side, I LOVE this song, but it's so far and away from her style that it doesn't quite count
I can’t stand that song, haha. I do really enjoy the Clairo album. I think she’ll only continue to come into her own and make engaging stuff.
Clairo’s the only one of the artists in this conversation that I feel is doing things beyond her years. Not at all to imply young people can’t make great art or anything. Her debut just sounds like a record that would’ve come along later in someone else’s career after they’d been at it for a long time. Maybe “precise” is the word. It’s varied but focused and plays perfectly to her strengths
I feel like they are all doing something unique/beyond their years. They're all fairly young and already have hundreds of thousands/millions of fans and views/streams. That doesn't happen if you aren't making music that's interesting to people. Same with Phoebe, the rest of the boygenius crew, and other indie musicians in the same sphere.
so many of the comments on colbert's facebook post and tweet about this are people like "who is this strange girl" and it's so funny
just looked it up, I guess it’s just literally just “m x m toon”. was also thrown when she referred to it as her “username” lol, but apparently she got big through YouTube
