Review: Phoebe Bridgers – Punisher

 

Moon Song is a sleeper favorite for me rn

 

Still gets successive chills on Chinese Satellites during the "through the walls" and "I want to believe" lines at the end of the song every time

 

Never heard Phoebe before today, and I absolutely love this album. Chinese Satellite is my favorite by far.

 

Finally got my record today!! Easily the coolest lyric book I own after the one that came with 22AM. It’s an incredible piece of art on its own.

 

Hello today "Moon Song" is stuck in my head, especially this line:

"You are sick, and you're married, and you might be dying, but you're holding me like water in your hands."

Do we know if she's referring to anyone specifically here?

 

i believe it is her drummer.

 

"I See You" is the one about her drummer, but they're still friends and he even wrote that song with her. I... don't think that's the same person "Moon Song" is about

Wow, I had no idea that her and Marshall dated, or that he used to be in Ryan Adams' band

 

Can't stress enough how much the closer has changed me as a person.

Also the “she knows she lived through it to get to this moment” on Graceland Too broke me.

 

I remember Phoebe making jokes about Marshall being her ex on her “Farewell Tour.” He’s super talented and brings a lot to the songs live.

 

I know Smoke Signals is also about him, and I think Scott Street as well.

 

Scott Street is actually mostly written by Marshall, with the big chunk of lyrics as well. Such a cool episode of the Song Exploder podcast on this song specifically, highly recommend that, it also gives a piece from the demo of the song that Marshall initially sang.
