Also, I think Ethan Gruska is amazing and a genius of sound layers hahh, if you just go and listen to his solo albums you'll hear so much of the stuff off of what he has worked on outside as well, which is both Phoebe LPs as well as Christian Lee Hutson's new one (produced by Phoebe) and stuff like Kimbra, Bad Books, Perfume Genius (I see lots of the same people in the credits of "Set My Heart On Fire Immediately"). Pretty interesting to me.

Well, referencing stuff from artist's previous efforts might be just that, but now are you thinking of the bird in teeth line in context? Cause that is actually pretty axiomatic - I mean, with a metaphor like that one, would anybody (actually focusing on the record) be able to not recall the likeness after 20 minutes? ;d Though I obviously agree it is some amazing writing!

I think plenty of people wouldn't pay attention quite that close to catch and recall every lyric, yeah. Not every listener goes through albums with a fine-toothed comb on Chorus.

I get heavy Elliot Smith vibes from Savior Complex.

I guess I've been caught doing just that ;d ;d and I absolutely agree with you; not everybody does it with any music at all (and it's fine), but I just thought that "tremendous faith" was a bit too much. I mean, let's give people some more credit.

I noticed the callbacks in I Know The End (the dog metaphor and the reference to an alien spaceship) right away

Is this some wisdom, some absurd, a reference, or just a burn? oooh now I get it, it was for the username @ImAMetaphor. Tight! Got me perplexed for a moment there.

You know, the joke was right in front of me and I didn't even see it. I've failed myself.

Yeah the lyric booklet is a nice touch it has dope black and white illustrations for every song. I'm gonna sit down with the lyrics and spin the record finally today.

So she picks a direction, it's ninety to Memphis
Turns up the music so thought don't intrude
Predictably winds up thinking of Elvis
And wonders if he believed songs could come true
I'm asking for it if they do...

This line is both humorous and really chilling considering how dark/sad Phoebe's songs are. Man, this whole record is just a songwriting masterclass.

This might be my favorite lyric from the record.

Said she knows she lived through it to get to this moment
Ate a sleeve of saltines on my floor and I knew
I would do anything you want me to
I would do anything for you

My favorite lyrics would be the entire second verse of "Chinese Satellite".
