I can also see this becoming a go-to nighttime walk/drive album. Reminds me a lot of This Empty Northern Hemisphere by Gregory Alan Isakov in that sense.
Just got the (red) vinyl and WOW the lyric booklet is already up there with the Alchemy Index as the best physical album purchase I’ve made
Graceland Too officially made me cry. Can’t think of a recent song that made me do that. So, so very special.
Agreed and the little guitar riff that comes in with that is one of my favorite parts of the whole record
I keep posting about Chinese Satellites but right around the 2 minute mark that little touch just gets me.
Say hello to Phoebe. She is the chillest puppy I’ve ever encountered and we are so happy she is ours.
It gives me some Andrew McMahon vibes? Maybe that’s totally wrong but that was my impression. 1000% agree on it being the best song I’ve heard this year.
one of my favourite moments: the way she sings "I love a good place to hide" in the title track, esp with the effects on the word hide.
i know it's been posted but this is all i think about at the end of ikte. and i can't not scream along.
Also to avoid confusion my avatar is a pic i took of my friend’s dog. Phoebe is me and my fiancé’s first puppy of our own!
I know it's only 2020 y'all but, uh, this might be my album of the decade. At least for this weekend.
i, too, got Sufjan Stevens vibes at the end. i'm glad to see someone else got that. i really enjoyed it.
Just got caught up. The record has grown on me immensely and now I think I'm where everyone else is. Jumbled thoughts: 1. I can't stop repeating I Know the End. It might be my favorite song of the year so far. That build is just insane and those horns give it that same cathartic sound that Sufjan's "Chicago" has. It's that "soundtrack to one of the most important moments in your life" feeling. I like whatever someone said about it being like having a good cry that's built up for a while. Sad, but also joyful in a sense. 2. I love Graceland Too and one thing that's stood out is how much it reminds me of Nickel Creek. Looked on Wikipedia and Sara Watkins plays the fiddle on it?? Like whaaat??? My love for that song just grew that much larger. 3. At this point, I think Smoke Signals and I Know the End are my favorite Phoebe songs, which is kind of satisfying since they're the first and last songs on her two albums. Also, just to add on to what others have already said, Julien is the greatest.
Yes!! With the horns and the group all I could think about was Impossible Soul from Age of Adz. But that's also a partial call back to Illinois.
