Ah I'm basing it off an article I read a while back when Passion Pit did MSG that it "starts at 10k". The guess for ticket requests was just a shot in the dark, could be 20x or could be 50x for all we know haha.
They're doing the pouch thing because of unreleased songs. Zero chance a tour for the album requires them.
That's still dumb. Brian Fallon played an unreleased song a couple weeks ago. Seeing the video of it did absolutely nothing to stop me or any of his fans from streaming it on Apple Music the second it was available.
Phoebe is exponentially more popular than Brian Fallon, and it seems like she’s premiered like 4-5 new songs at some of these shows. Understandable that she would not want like half of an album she hasn’t even announced (or possibly even finished) circulating the internet quite yet
Yeah people who go to Brian Fallon small solo shows are...a different breed than those who go to Phoebe Bridgers shows.
Can't imagine why she or her team are that bothered about music leaks, her weird fanbase will run up a single the second it's released. She should be bothered about working with a rapist but that's none of my business.
I don’t think streams are the concern, it’s more about presentation. There’s a difference between letting your fans exclusively experience a new song live and resigning to PhoebeStan69 premiering it to the world via their shakey iPhone video with people talking in the background Agree on the Marshall thing though obviously
the phone thing is cool. it creates a unique experience, forces you to actually interact with people, and prevents the kids from experiencing the entire performance through a screen. not sure i’d do it now that i have a kid, but i went to a john mulaney show with the pouches once and it was fun.
They put our phones at the Paul McCartney show I went to in the yondr pouches and it was fantastic. Granted it wasn't a massive show like this, and if you did it for a whole tour you would have to convince your openers to also be on board with this (which can be hard because some of the fan videos that go viral on socials from the openers become key to their success)
yeah wouldn't mind getting to see a concert where i'm not trying to see over a bunch of people recording the whole set on their phone.
It just suck we’ve gotten to a point where you have to literally force people to lock up their phones instead of asking people to just not.
I liked at the Jack White show a decade ago, they were like “We’re taking professional photos tonight and will post them on our site and you can steal those and even say you took them. Just please put your phone away.” And people surprisingly did.
Gracie Abram’s and Hayley Williams have already hammered my wallet this week but definitely going to have to jump on this, if there’s a Glasgow date. Hydro as a venue won’t quite hit the same as a tiny Church did in 2018.
any chance there's an album announcement/single after MSG tonight? especially if she's announcing a tour tomorrow, it feels somewhat likely to me
I’d say an album announcement is likely, possibly a single. Don’t imagine an arena tour for US, EU and UK comes without one. Some online were speculating at a surprise album drop but I think that’s wishful thinking. I imagine a release in August or September.
