Yeah, they shared an executive producting and songwriting credits on the Christian Lee Hutson album. Absolutely no way anything changes from what Bridgers has done in the past.
Buried so well that I didn’t learn about it until today. I’m pretty terminally online just didn’t check on this thread when it broke last year I guess. Pretty disappointing and really just depressing it’s that easy to make something go away edit: ok 2023 is no longer last year technically I suppose
The Phoebe subreddit removed the posts about Marshall and deleted a bunch of comments, it was honestly disheartening to see them contributing to the suppression of the allegation. There was also a Substack post from Marshall’s ex Ruby last year (2024) that I believe was posted in here and didn’t paint him in the best light, but on the subreddit when someone shared it a moderator came in and deleted all comments and said the subreddit isn’t the place for debate on serious issues. (FWIW, I am an admin in the Phoebe FB group and we have never suppressed any information regarding Marshall and the allegation as I and the other mods said at the time it’s important for such information to be made known and allowed to be discussed, as long as people aren’t going against any wishes of the victim which I haven’t seen anything of the like from the victim)
It's extremely disheartening especially considering statements and actions taken by Phoebe against her own abusers. I get that it's tough to speak out against a friend and a collaborator but it's also fair for us to put her on a higher pedestal in terms of responding to the allegations made against Marshall. And I get it - we all made friends with the wrong people at some point in our life. There are people I was previously friends with who are bigots, racists, and transphobic. I have personally known people who have assaulted others like many of us.
Didn’t know Ruby and Marshall wrote “Sidelines.” That really hurts because that song mean a lot to me. And knowing the circumstances now - ugghh. This whole thing just sucks.
In the Chris Nelson defamation lawsuit, it says that Phoebe expressed discomfort with Marshall’s tendency to date barely legal teenagers (Ruby was 19 when they began dating and he dated Zoe Donahoe when she was 18). I can understand not saying anything publicly then (technically nothing illegal happening, even though I feel like if you date someone at 18 as an older person, you don’t just magically start talking to them at 18), but not saying anything when the allegation of sexual assault against someone who was underage at the time came out is disappointing.

Heard a few songs from this artist in a bookstore in Japan today and fully thought it was new Phoebe:
If you guys remember Jensen McRae, she had that “parody” Phoebe Bridgers song called Immune, she released a new album a few weeks ago and it’s really good. She played a song on Kimmel the other night too.
This song was my #1 most played song of 2024 in my Spotify Wrapped. Hope it keeps getting pushed because it's just perfect.
On the subject of recommending similar artists, I just discovered (today) this Australian trio called "Folk Bitch Trio" who are very boygenius-esque (in their own way though) and are making great indie folk/folk rock music. They recently signed to Jagjaguwar and announced their debut album today. Fans of boygenius/Phoebe (who are looking for similar music but not interested in listening to boygenius/Phoebe for...reasons mentioned before in this thread) should definitely get on the hype train.
