It's just hilarious to me that I discovered Phoebe through this site when someone posted Smoke Signals in a Julien Baker thread since she was Julien's opener. Obviously, there was a lot brewing beneath the surface in hindsight, but at the time nobody knew who she was. Her rise has been such a joy to watch.
By the time I saw her with boygenius a few years back I was mostly a julien fan and phoebe's solo music hadn't clicked with me yet. I just remember trying to take photos of phoebe during her set and she looked like a demonic pioneer in all of them. But I remember ppl buzzing about her specifically after the show and it def felt like her rise was coming

The boygenius tour is what finally got Stranger In the Alps to really click for me. I mostly bought a ticket for Julien and the boygenius ep, but I was a fan of everyone by the show.
Julien was the gateway to a LOT of the music I listen to today, including Phoebe. I’m also in the camp of of “heard Smoke Signals and the Killer EP and knew something big was coming.” Phoebe will always have a special place in my heart because of that.
Man I’m so jealous of y’all! According to my last.fm, I listened to Julien, Lucy and Phoebe exactly once each when they were first starting out and apparently didn’t like any of it lmao because I never listened to them again until I started getting into Phoebe after BOCC came out.
I saw her open for Julien Baker at a tiny venue in NH right after Sprained Ankle came out, wild how big she’s gotten since then
I don’t want to be dramatic but she is playing a fucking stadium right now and I think I would die for her
I saw Phoebe play a free show at Daytrotter in Iowa near where I went to college in 2016 in an off day of her opening for Julien, having no idea who she was but going on a whim and there were maybe 100 people there max. Then I graduated the next year and she played Chicago and sold out a 500 capacity venue almost a year later to the day and it was wild.
