i'm just guessing, but I think there may be a sizable amount of people who learned of Phoebe relatively recently with her SNL level of mainstream success and don't dig any deeper than that.
She said the same thing when I saw her in Philly last September, and that was just a GA field. Pretty awesome to see her 4-day run this Monday-Thursday in NJ/NYC.
I'm so glad I saw her on that first headlining tour. It was in a 150 cap venue. Crazy how big she's gotten
had to tell someone to stfu or go to bar during Bon Iver at Forrest Hills when he was playing Creeks. they got up and left 30 seconds later and never came back.
I almost got into a fight when I saw phoebe because people wouldn’t shut the fuck up. I love her but probably won’t ever see her live again.
I almost chewed out ppl for talking over jimmy eat world once but I am a passive person so I just glared and complained to others instead Ppl haven't talked over phoebe when I've seen her, but they def talked over Christian lee Hutson when I saw BOCC.
I told a dude behind me at a Conor Oberst show as nicely as I could to "go to the bar if you wanna talk throughout the entire set" and he immediately got super aggressive. Luckily I was with friends and they backed me up and shamed the dude for wanting to fight me at an Oberst show, lol.
i was at a Dave Hause show and the opener was a local band that sat at the bar and talked super loudly during Dave’s set (it was a tiny little bar so everyone could hear them). I went over and told them to shut up because I didn’t pay to hear them talk. This giant 7 foot dude came over and gave me a hug and thanked me because his gf wouldn’t let him say anything lol. He said he had my back if anyone wanted to fight.
I’ve seen her twice but not at a headliner show. Saw her on the boygenius tour as well as with BOCC. Both times were awesome.
lol people get so bent out of shape by taller people having fun at concerts they paid money to attend. i’m 6’3, i’d rather not sit at the back and barely be able to see lol. that being said, anyone who has ever asked me if they could move in front of me bc i was blocking them, i’ve gladly allowed them to move up.
I've seen a lot of people complain about fans singing along to her music at concerts, and man, what buzzkills haha. I sing along at every damn concert I go to, no shame
I think I posted about it when I saw her, but I also did not enjoy the crowd at her show. Singing along is one thing, but they simply would not stop talking. It seems to be a common experience with her, which is strange. She's so awesome, but she's like a magnet for weirdness. Remember when people flipped out when she smashed her guitar?
Singing along is the best, but not always, I don't know - for example not at a Sigur Rós show hahah (one of the bad experiences). Well or some parts of Julien Baker's set the last time - it's really weird when people in the crowd try to copy some specific parts, you'd think those would be the moments you could really decide to hear the details in her voice and not scream your lungs out for a second or two. Not sure if it's pretentious to think this way, but I was weirded out a bit during "Happy to Be Here" for example (which by the way was a quite weird version to start with).
Idk I just think people should enjoy a concert how they want to enjoy it so long as it isn’t interfering with anyone.
That's what I always try to to stick to as well, and of course I'm not unhappy when people sing - it's just sometimes it feels odd. Doesn't annoy me though as it's actually part of the fun, unlike talking through someone's set.
I don't mind singing as long as I can hear the singer, like I can't do a Dashboard show where the crowd is singing every song, it makes me very anxious especially now it's like no stop encouraging everyone to expel particles
