It’s Lucy, she’s soundchecking at the venue right now The Taylor fans are going to be big mad but they played themselves for making up a rumor that it was Taylor
You play stupid games, you win stupid prizes (although a Lucy Dacus show is not really a stupid prize, it's a pretty good prize actually)
Laughing out loud at all the people who bought tickets thinking it was Taylor Swift. You’ll get Lucy and you’ll like it.
How are there Phoebe fans who do not know who Lucy is? Because apparently this was a thing at the show tonight.
I honestly don't think it's that weird, Phoebe is WAY bigger than Lucy Dacus, by a huge margin, so mathematically a ton of her fans don't know who Lucy is
even just looking at spotify, 6 million monthy listeners for Phoebe, less than 2 million for Lucy, on the most basic of levels, that's less than 1/2 of Phoebe's listeners listening to Lucy also
Also concert goers are stupid as fuck, people talked LOUDLY through phoebe’s entire set when I saw her.
I was at the show and no one around me knew Lucy’s music except for Night Shift. They all seemed to enjoy her set though (though there was way too much talking) so hopefully she gained some new fans. If anyones interested, someone on the phoebe subreddit posted a download to her whole Forest Hills set in great quality.
Think about it this way: The average person doesn't really care about music except as something to play in the background or set a mood. A lot of people that actually do listen to music only have like 10-15 artists they really care about and don't venture beyond those artists much at all. A lot of both of these groups of people are present at most shows, which explains 1) why a lot of people talk during sets; 2) why there always seem to be a bunch of people who only really know 3-4 songs; and 3) why someone who knows Phoebe even reasonably well might not have much/any awareness of Lucy.
good points, and also the case for me is 4) they are aware of the other artists, but just aren't into the music. For whatever reason, I really like Phoebe Bridgers' albums but having tried Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker's they just don't work for me. That said I think people shouldn't be talking through the sets unless at the back, seems annoying/disrespectful
I just don’t understand spending $50+ on a ticket to talk through a set. Go to a local bar with a cover band if you want live music and want to talk.
Dashboard Confessional did an intimate album release show here in NYC in February. Solo just Chris and an acoustic guitar in a small 500 cap room. And the group of people standing in front of me talked the ENTIRE fucking show. Like I dont think there was a second where they stopped and actually acknowledged the music. Why would people like that go to shows? Especially an intimate show like that? Similar scenario when I saw Julien Baker in Jersey City years ago. So yes, people suck.
Or at least stand in the back by the bar or something. It should also be illegal for anyone over 6 ft to stand in the crowd and not against a wall.
But I do actually pay attention to where I’m standing and try not to block anyone or let people stand in front of me.
I'm 6'1" and I'm staying in the crowd, lol. But I will try to be courteous by not blocking your view with my iPhone for entire songs at a time.
Dumb question -- Was this show a big deal or something? Seemed like a lot of discussion online for one show
It was a 14,000 capacity venue, I think it was the biggest show of the tour? Plus earlier in the week she did 2 sold out nights in Brooklyn at a 6k cap venue, so pretty crazy that she sold over 25,000 tickets in one city in one week.
