Yeah I'll see how it goes on Wednesday—their box office isn't open until then anyways. I do have a friend looking to sell a great seat to the Boston show, though, so I may end up going to that instead (though the AirBnB options in Detroit are much cheaper). Good thing about going to Boston is that I can just Amtrak from NYC. Also, I was a little confused about the Ticketmaster line about refunds going back to the original purchaser if tickets were transferred—is it any different with a resale ticket?
Its wild that there are so many people I've never heard of that already have like a huge fan base, feels like I'm getting old Song sounds solid tho
The first show of her tour was tonight, and it looks like she played all of Punisher (with a good chunk of it being in order), 4 from SITA, and closed with That Funny Feeling by Bo Burnham
Wish it were a little longer but I love that setlist. Here’s to hoping she can still play shows in 7 weeks when I’m supposed to see her.
It was a pretty great set, Phoebe sounds amazing, but I really feel like I went into it worried the crowd would get to me and it did. Maybe it’s just Phoebe’s type of music hits a lot better in a small space where I can see her as opposed to being way back in an amphitheater with multiple phone screens recording the weirdest parts of the show at different times. I’ve always kinda railed against people hating the Phoebe Stan’s, it always seemed like harmless fun to me, but when I got there and doors hadn’t even opened and the line was the longest line I’ve seen since Chance the Rappers Coloring Book tour, I just got very big “old man yells at cloud” and “I saw her in a 300 cap venue when she wasn’t this popular!!!!” energy and I think that got to me. Very long winded way of saying I could’ve had a better experience, but I do have to say during the quiet songs people were VERY quiet and I’m so so so happy for all of Phobebes success. She really seemed in awe at how many people were there for her and that felt really special. Also Bartees fucking ruled too but it felt like NO ONE was watching and chatting the whole time. But I definitely expected that.
Also Her encore was a Bo Burnam song, which I’m not willing to give a shot because music that feels strictly for comedic purpose just really isn’t my thing, but the band absolutely killed it. Was a perfect finale.
I know you just said you're not willing to give it a shot lol but I implore you to check out Inside, it's so much more than "music for comedic purposes." One of the most profound things I've seen in a long time
It kind of is what it is now. She’ll never consistently play rooms that small again without charging a fortune. I mean, even Lucy is doing three nights in a row at 1000 cap venues.
Bummed I wasn’t into Phoebe when she played tiny venues but I’m going to an all GA show in a few weeks so I’m sure I can casually hang fairly close to the stage. Absolutely love the setlist.
All my friends love it and tell me the same, I’ll have to watch it eventually. I probably should’ve picked a better choice of words too (I had just done a 3 hour drive back to Springfield haha) so definitively didn’t mean to degrade it to that!! I know it was pretty moving for a lot of people. But yeah I might give it a shot this weekend cause the song was pretty great
and personally I love seeing people I'm into blow up, it's been surreal seeing how big John Mulaney has gotten but good for him
I don’t have an issue with Phoebe blowing up. Yeah I loved seeing her at smaller venues but more people knowing who she is isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
I want to make very clear that by no means am I upset Phoebe blew up hahahah I just really didn’t have as fun at the show as I hoped because there is nothing more I hate than having someone’s phone in my face the entire show (which honestly probably has nothing to do with Phoebe being bigger, I’m sure someone recorded the 300-cap room shows too) and I really wish I had a better view of what was going on on stage. Honestly don’t think I would’ve been as bummed if it had been at the pageant, really wasn’t a fan of the chesterfield amphitheater. I was just a grumpy old person after getting back at 3:00 AM but I was VERY HAPPY FOR PHOEBES Also, if you plan on getting merch I’d go quick. The line wrapped around and people waited at least an hour to get merch the entire time (except maybe when Phoebe was playing lol)
