I mean I just think the comment was weird. As pointed out above with the smiley face and also referring to Phoebe as a “girl”, when she’s an adult woman. In the Phoebe Facebook fan group a lot of men were often posting about the “sexy” photos of her rather than the music (which they were rightly called out for) and it’s just...there’s more to who she is than being “sexy”, especially when you are posting about her for the first time like the commenter was.
When is it appropriate for men to discuss the "sexiness" of a woman, and at what point does it cross the line into objectification?
We all know why the comment was wrong, it’s not worth lingering on at this point. Anyone think she’ll win a Grammy this weekend? I somehow feel the one she’s most likely to get is Best Rock Song for “Kyoto”, which is the only one I don’t want her to get (because I love “The Steps” so much)!
As much as I love Phoebe I see that one going to Megan Thee Stallion, she also had a breakout 2020 and WAP was such a massive song.
I called him the classic “bawn eye-ver” mispronunciation for years and then the second I learned the proper pronunciation I immediately shifted to judging the hell out of people who were saying it wrong.
I mean I wasn’t trying to seriously insult you. That’s why I wrote it like that haha. Was just a goofy comment
Kind of crazy to think of being introduced to “Smoke Signals” on this site when it had a thousand listens and absolutely no one knew who Phoebe was. That wasn’t long ago at all.
I think there was only a live YouTube recording of the song at the time, and people here hearing it, including myself, thinking it was hauntingly beautiful. Crazy how far, and how fast, she’s come
