    Phoebe Bridgers on Bright Eyes

She is the best kind of Bright Eyes/Conor Oberst fan. Meaning she likes all of the songs that I like. Such a great selection here.

Nice to know people still use that language/judge women for their appearance when talking about music made by women!

Even when it's about an artist who has posed topless in Playboy, it's a bit weird.

Meh. I hear my female friends talk about hot guys in bands that they like all the time. Jonas Bros., JT, Matty from The 1975.

it's still weird to sexualize people like that, whether it's men or women doing it. There's nothing wrong with acknowledging that Phoebe is attractive if you feel that way, but her physical appearance has nothing to do with her music, and has no bearing on her coverage here, so it's extremely weird to post what was posted.

This and also it implies that her appearance is why you are listening and not because she is talented/makes good music. Would that poster have commented about her music if she wasn’t deemed “sexy” in their eyes? Appearance should not determine whether you listen to someone’s music.

  12. Uh anyone that talks like that is a creep to me, period. It's the ":)" that seals the deal to me and shows that user must be used to acting like this without anyone calling him out.

Yeah, I agree that there’s probably a way to talk about feeling like some person is good-looking to you, specifically in casual conversation with friends (if that’s the type of thing you bond over). Coming into a thread/public place focused on someone’s art, though, and inserting that element into an ongoing conversation amongst strangers is antisocial, callous, and - overused word, but still - toxic.

Just curious, are you all assuming that the user that posted it is male?

Their bio says "M", which I assumed is for male.

Gotcha. I didn't know that detail was listed, but when I posted initially I was definitely assuming male without knowing.

I get the pushback on the comment. Especially with the smiley. My point is that being attracted to a performer (actor, musician, etc.) is just going to happen regardless of gender. Can't fight biology. You can determine when/where/how to discuss it appropriately without reducing to objectification. I don't agree that it needs to be demonized altogether.
