It's a bummer how crappy new Danelectros are. The vintage ones have actually held up insanely well and become popular again in the last decade.
the fuck, fam. i woke up and see three new pages on this thread and i have it on max posts per page. chill the fuck out.
Every single thing related to the guitar smashing discourse makes me wish I could unplug my brain and be shot into the sun.
I feel like a lot of the guitar smashing discourse is subtle misogyny? Like these people know they can’t say she’s a terrible musician because she’s a woman (although some have tried) because that’s too obvious so they have to come up with some other excuse to criticize her.
My only real contribution to this is that in high school I had an amazing piano teacher named Tanya who told me that as a kid she was watching the Smells Like Teen Spirit music video and her mom walked in and saw the smash and got so mad that she told Tanya to write a letter to the record label talking about how offensive smashing instruments is and that she’s the daughter of a single mother who scrapes together spare change to get her instruments and music lessons and that it was wasteful and they could’ve just donated the guitars to kids who needed them. So Tanya writes and sends the letter and a few weeks later they get a letter in return from band management apologizing profusely and offering to make it up to them by inviting them to a special concert they were doing in NYC, which ended up being the MTV Unplugged performance
Lmao I seriously can't believe people are losing their minds over a rockstar acting like a rockstar and smashing a fucking guitar. It's every music nerd's dream
Also I'll out myself as someone who isn't a fan of smashing instruments but people are definitely being dorks about it
I would smash every guitar in Guitar Center if it meant I never had to hear some leftover 1970s fucking loser soloing at max volume. This also goes for every 12 year old playing Smoke on the Water.
Also, just in case anyone was thinking this had anything to do with guitars and not good old fashion misogyny.
I feel like she was well aware that a lot of dipshits would react the exact way that they did and she is enjoying the hell out of all of this right now. Also, super pumped about this -->
This is the worst online guitar smash discourse since the Code Orange bassist smashed his at a music festival.
I mean there would literally be like 5 tweets about it if it was a dude smashing their guitar last night. Of course it’s absolutely misogyny
If people are making fun or somehow overly annoyed by an SNL performance..it was probably great. Seen it happen to a few of my favorite artists.. and this is the only opinion that matters anyways
