I'm responding to the person who said the exact same thing both of you are criticizing me for. Does this person know her personally to be able to say it's the most "Phoebe" thing ever?
Insufferable. No one gives an actual shit what chorus.fm user @totallysweet deems genuine guitar-smashing worthy of praise. Ridiculous through and through lol
Original guitar smash was an accident by Pete Townshed of The Who. Then the legend grew and it became a thing, and it’s been contrived for entertainment since then with The Who, Nirvana, Phoebe and so many others have done it. Kurt used to switch to a cheap guitar before smashing. People are allowed to have different opinions on it. It’s really got too much attention though. It’s probably fun.
When sings about watching chem trails with her brother and she elongates "brother". I feel like it just hits her right there how far she's made it. Made me smile too.
I think she just isn’t taking herself too seriously in that respect. I mean she plays a B.C. Rich guitar to be ironic in my opinion. I believe it’s just her sense of humor. Regardless I can see where you’re coming from on where it comes off cheesy. I would just say don’t take it too seriously. There’s plenty of other artists out there if you chose to quit following her.
Fake out encores are contrived too. And sometimes the outfits warn by performers. But it’s meant to entertain and get a reaction. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. Or what works for one does t work for another. I’m in the don’t take it too seriously mind set too. It’s her guitar to smash I guess. Don’t have any impact on if I like an artists album. Maybe you know you’re just not into going to see her live then.
Who cares she smashed a guitar, I have no idea why people have so many opinions about this. It was Phoebe doing her goofy and unique schtick. And Goddamn, it was a great performance too. Seems a bunch of white dudes wanna tell her how she smashed it wrong. So lame.
