Same. The song would be more interesting if it closed with the 8bit outro that’s in the vid.

  2. Really great song

I’m surprised by the negativity with the song. I love it, can’t stop playing it. Excited for the album.

  6. I haven't even been able to listen yet, Phoebe was such an important artist for me from SitA through BOCC, the first boygenius EP, and Punisher... and my heart sunk when I saw Marshall on the track credits. Just left such a pit in my stomach. I'll listen eventually but I don't think I'll ever be able to listen to anything of hers without thinking about this. Makes it hard to imagine enjoying the album at all.

I think in the end, we all draw our own lines. We still talk about Weezer, Vampire Weekend and Brad Pitt movies, among others, despite their allegations. Phoebe’s first two albums mean a ton to me, but it also feels tainted with Marshall’s involvement. I think both arguments for and against her are valid.

  8. I can't speak for any of the bigger fans in this thread, but my attitude is definitely not "hey what are you going to do" lol I think it fucking SUCKS and I'm not even a huge Phoebe fan, so I don't feel the need to performatively say I'm not going to give her any of my money because that's kind of just a given. I listened to the song a couple of times and chimed in with my thoughts. Once someone in here makes their stance on Marshall known, I'm not entirely sure what else is expected.

  9. I also think that of all the weird-ass communities online, users on this site more than any other should probably give each other a little benefit of the doubt. I don't think I've seen a single person defending Marshall (or Phoebe's continued involvement with him) in any thread since it was reported and I wouldn't expect to see it now. If you don't expect people to still react to/talk about the album...I don't know what to realistically tell you

The song is ok, I’m not so sure about 50% of the people in this thread though. If you can’t handle the predator being involved, don’t listen. Your prerogative, but the accountability forum could use some new issues to focus on

I don’t think it’s odd. Harsh tone maybe but I do apologize for that. I just don’t find it surprising that Marshall is on this, Phoebe never even commented on his allegations from what I remember. I feel like it’s everyone’s decision on whether they want to listen to the songs he played a role in creating?

The Vampire Weekend stuff not ever really being mentioned on this site is wild.

She’s getting benefit of the doubt she probably wouldn’t be if they played under a band name, but boycotting a woman solo artist for the actions of a man doesn’t feel right to me either. Not saying anyone’s wrong for drawing their own lines, but I don’t think anyone here is automatically in the wrong for still engaging with her music. (Not trying to invent a guy here but this was the simplest way I could think to put it.)

It sucks that she didn’t give him the boot for sure and she deserves criticism for that, but if some don’t have have the appetite for writing off the rest of her career on guilt by association I get that, too.

but it is also valid for people to be extremely disappointed in her decision to keep an alleged rapist on her payroll

  20. The part that sucks the most to me is how public she was about the Ryan Adams stuff when she was coming up. Hard to not feel like there’s a clear double standard now with the Marshall Vore allegations.

That being said, sure it’s up to everyone to decide what to care about. Hell I don’t even have my own consistent understanding of where the line is for me, let alone anyone else. I’ll listen to Sticky Fingers once a week or whatever but Deja Entendu creeps me out now.

As one of the accountability lurkers (and #1 Ivan ooze stan) does this become a case of “can we separate the art from the artist” or does it also become a case of “hey why isn’t phoebe being vocal about the allegations because that’s weird as HECK to stay silent on when you literally have a song talking about another creep in music”?

And the song might just grow on me. But I’ve also never been a huge alex g fan and it just…sounds very alex g-y to me AND ITS OKAY TO BE A FAN AND NOT LIKE STUFF!

fellow accountability lurker here! That last part is what I was commenting on earlier.
I am not interested in policing people’s personal line between art/artist, just noticed it felt like folks were giving Phoebe more grace than a lot of other artists usually get around here.

For me, it will always be disappointment. In music, I just think it’s too difficult to separate art from the artist, especially when their music is famously personal.

It just feels like a case of some things get traction and some don’t. And they did a great job of burying that.
