I know a little something you won't ever know Prestigious

I do basically agree with your musical review btw. White Lights the song is kind of brutal. I really like Echo but I can see why some might not. But seriously man, good lord was it amazing to see a show again. I needed it even more than I thought and I thought I really needed it lol

    Live jam wise? Yes.

In their studio catalog? Unfortunately not.

On its 10th anniversary, allow me to repost this for the third time:

I feel like the debate over BEST PHISH VERSION EVER is always a dead end because although there are some that always pop up (Riverport or Great Went Gin, Camden Chalk Dust, etc.), the fact is that with a catalog so large and so diverse stylistically, even within a short timespan, makes the answer a matter of personal preference that is always so different from person to person.

So perhaps it's even more of a fool's errand to pin down the best Phish movement...but the more and more I listen, I really think it is the final 8 minutes or so of the *soundcheck* of Waves at Bethel in 2011 (5/26/11 to be exact). Right when Page (?) starts hitting on that siren at around 20:45~ and it takes off on that beautiful motif that they ride until the end...it's just so pure and awe-inspiring.

The fact that it's preceded by a really nasty, dissonant kind of jam prior to this makes the transition all the more stunning. I'm near tears pretty much any time I listen to this. One of those jams where you just close your eyes and you're floating off somewhere completely different.

Also, to borrow the parlance that Clickhole perfectly skewers, it #reallymakesyouthink that this is just a damn soundcheck. Imagine all the amazing soundcheck jams that we don't have access to, or that weren't even recorded. Long live the Phish from Vermont.

@unbornwhiskey I really think that Coral Sky Crosseyed and Painless -> Run Like An Antelope is perhaps the best one-two punch in the band's history.

@unbornwhiskey Absolutely killer listening project man, well done! So many good shows.

Which ended up being your favorites? My favorite show of all time is probably 6/11/94 but there's no true soundboard recording outside of a radio rip. The setlist has no misses, the Stash (my favorite Phish song) is absolute heat, and the YEM is an all-timer.

Put this show/this YEM on your list ASAP!:

i only heard 12/11/99 for the first time during this project but it immediately became my favorite show i've heard so far, a perfect setlist, two great sets, extremely loud and pumped crowd, a sort of '97 energy to it but with '99's tendency for the jams to venture into deep space. no soundboard of this one either, and all of the AUDs i could find are kinda murky, but it doesn't matter, you can hear the quality of this show through any interference

my other fave from the run was 12/11/97, which i think has the reputation of the best first set of the fall '97 tour, and that's very true, but the second set is just about as good imo

my first favorite phish show was 4/4/98, which i revisited for this project, it's my favorite second set of the island tour and possibly ever, but i love every island tour show. 11/11/98 was new to me and struck me as an island tour show in spirit

i have always enjoyed 6/13/00 but with all the new context i have that show sounds even weirder and better!!!! they barely sound like themselves!!!!

august '93 blew me away and i need to explore further, but 8/26/93 sticks in my memory as a phenomenal show. i'm thankful you recommended a '94 show, a year i think i should've spent more time in. the "bowie" from 12/19/94 may be my favorite phish thing

6/13/00 is a beast. I believe the rumors say there was mushroom tea, which definitely explains some of the jamming, particularly the Twist.

6/11/94 will rock your socks then. Pure Type 1 shredding gasoline. Soaring peaks, incredible playing. From the Phish.net Jam Charts:

"As spirited, kinetic, and vigorous as Stash gets. Incendiary peaks by Trey, anchored by booming, seismic Mike/Fish rhythms akin to those in 12.2.95 Tweezer." Thanks @FunkyCFunkyDo!
