That’s a great location. Used to live in Spring Garden (“the Eraserhood”) which I really loved as it was close to a bunch of venues, and walking distance from Fairmount and Northern Liberties.
It’s got a bad rep for being predominantly white MAGA cops, which is kinda true, but it’s rapidly changing into a more diverse interesting area. I grew up in it and could not afford a house anywhere else haha
Hey guys, I'm not from Philadelphia but bought tickets to see Moving Mountains at Johnny Brenda's on Thursday 10/16. I'm trying to decide whether I can financially do this trip or not. Would anybody from Philly be up for letting me crash on their couch/floor/spare bed the night of 10/16 after the show? I know it's a big ask to let a stranger/internet person do that. @vein.mtf and me are friends irl so any of you can message them if you want a character reference lol
I think the (relative) fall from grace for Zahav and Kalaya is interesting. I know the guide has kind've shied away from institutions in favor of more out of the box picks, but Zahav has been the highest rated restaurant in the city for almost 20 years. Kalaya has been the more recent golden child, and I feel like a lot of people had it as a shoe in. I liked both of them (honestly think I like Suraya the most), but I get why they picked FSS. Have yet to try Her Place or Provenance (definitely the surprise pick)
Agreed about Zahav and Kalaya. I can't recommend Her Place enough. It might be the best dining experience I've ever had. I still need to get to FSS (Provenance too), but my brother was there recently and raved about it. Provenance being picked was definitely a surprise, although it does look spectacular.
Super last minute, but does anyone want two free tickets for Turmoil/Foreign Hands/etc. tonight at the Church? I came down with COVID. I need to transfer them by 4 pm today
