They used to put on screamo shows at the Thunderbird bowling alley up the street from my parents' house. I don't think they do that anymore.

PRetty sure I saw Dan Andriano in the Emergency Room at Johnny Brenda's. Derek opened the show doing solo acoustic stuff, so that was pretty cool

I didn't realize the Ukie club had concerts! That's sick. Also forgot about Ortlieb's and Milkboy, those are great shouts. Time to scour the upcoming events lists!

Doesn’t look like any good shows on those dates. Cults, I guess?

What neighborhood are you staying in? I’d say schedule your entire visit around food.

Beacon school at Johnny Brenda’s on 6/18 should be cool. Cloakroom at spruce street harbor on 6/19 will be a cool outdoor, free show. Disaster artist ànd friend are playing on 6/22 at Philamoca with a cool band from Richmond called strawberry moon.

thrifting/vintage: thunderbird salvage (a must hit imo), jinxed, urban exchange, sweet peel, retrospect

Wow Cody was definitely thorough there. I can definitely vouch for:
    Franklin Institute
    Bok (Bar)
    Kalaya
    Reading Terminal
    Angelos
    1900 Ice Cream

    I’d add:
    Pizzeria Beddia
    Other Half (Brewery)
    Tired Hands (Brewery)
    Sampan
Depending on if you’re drinking or not, Fishtown is a fun enough spot to bar hop. I say that as an old man that has not bar hopped in a few years

The Italian Market, where Angelo’s is, is also worth a walk. Great meats/cheeses/coffee etc. Sarcones rolls are a must have

Since you have a car, a few out of the way spots not directly in the city:
Steve’s Prince of Steaks in the Northeast is my favorite steak in the city. Not Angelo’s level, but a staple and definitely less of a headache in terms of waiting.

Similarly, hole in the wall pizza place Merc Bros is my favorite pizza in the city. Right off of the boulevard.

Zsa’s Ice Cream in Mount Airy is excellent and closing this year. That’s a drive up the street from Chestnut Hill, a beautiful neighborhood with a ton of restaurants worth checking out. I love Cin Cin. They also just put in a Liberty Kitchen in their mini-version of Reading Terminal that has a bunch of vendors.

South Philly repping here!!! I live in Pennsport.

Highly recommend also checking out East Passyunk, a neighborhood by me which has some great restaurants and stores (Cantina Dos Caballitos is a favorite). Milk Jawn has the best ice cream in the city, several vegan flavors. Also love A Novel Idea, an independent bookstore owned by friends / fellow authors with personalized recommendations on every shelf. There are also two excellent record stores there: Beautiful World Syndicate and Latchkey.
