except that hard eight is a drastic step down in quality from everything else he’s done. if you wanna know where to start with fincher or nolan, it isn’t alien 3 or the following lol.
right. but don't act like the answer is so obvious when it's clearly not. also I think Hard Eight is great
There are two distinct Anderson phases: Hard Eight-Boogie Nights-Magnolia are very strong, but more conventional. Punch-Drunk Love and on is more experimental. Punch-Drunk Love was my first, but arguably the weirdest if you aren't used to independent cinema.
If you loved Phantom Thread and it was your first, I’d actually say watch Punch-Drunk Love next. But they’re all so good.
Boogie is my personal favorite but feel like it and Mag are in a class of their own compared to his later work. Also, totally felt the Jonathan Demme influence in Phantom.
Can the other Brits or anybody with an ear for accents try and help me with what accent Woodcock had? The character absolutely has to have been born into great wealth and privilege, but there was no real upper class, Etonian accent from him. His accent didn't seem to fit at all with the aristocrats he mingles with. Really couldn't place it at all. I know DDL is very deliberate with his accents and dialects, so it had to be coming from somewhere, but I had no idea what it was supposed to be.
Honestly it was almost exactly DDL’s normal speaking voice, maybe changed a little bit in some areas. I was surprised he didn’t really alter his voice much for the role, actually.
huh. i definitely came in here thinking DDL was Irish, but i guess that's just from his work. whoops.
Probably because he has Irish citizenship. You probably heard that somewhere and then thought he was Irish, I did the same thing lol
Yeah if you listen to him do interviews or his awards acceptance speeches, this is almost exactly how he sounds.
Really good understated movie—definitely not what I was expecting. I cant say I enjoyed it as much as the rest of you but it was definitely worth seeing. The score is impeccable and the performances were excellent all-around

Saw this last week. Thought it was good, but it didn’t really pull me in until the first mushroom sequence. Glad I saw it, but not really my preference.
