I'm finally getting the chance to be able to see this tonight. DDL has been one of my favorite actors for a while so hopefully his swansong will be just as much of a treat as his last few roles.
This was pretty great. I really enjoyed the utilization of the folly sound effects to show woodcock's irritation with the world around him .
The movie was incredible Loved the characters so much, they were both beautifully complex and I liked that they were both able to see into each other readily and the narrative thus being able to explore the dynamic of connection beyond just reaching the point of mutual understanding - a lot of scenes involve both knowing exactly what is going on yet unable to draw it fully out in the open The scene where alma tries to articulate his semi-subconscious walling off and him subverting it openly and her consequent frustration was just brilliant. Same with the mushroom omelette scene - it was a really unique and frankly very funny take on honesty/vulnerability Was the only person laughing in the theater during a lot of the scenes unfortunately, but overall it was a really really delightful watch. Call Me By Your Name was my favorite new film I'd seen in years and this is almost on par with it
Didn't love this as much as most of you, but the performances were great and the sound design was ace.
I just feel like Boogie Nights is the perfect PTA film to start with no matter which is your favorite. I think someone said earlier that it's a good encapsulation of his early style.
just start with boogie nights and work your way from there lol. why is that always so difficult to grasp
