Daniel Day-Lewis, Paul Thomas Anderson May Team on Fashion Movie | Variety "Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures is producing and financing the untitled project. The film will be set in 1950s New York and revolve around the fashion industry, although the plot is under wraps."
Literally squealed when I saw this today. No shame. PTA is a God, and not in the narcissistic Kanye West way where he calls himself a God. In the literal, omnipotent deity from a higher plane of existence where all the movies are shot on film and 3D was never invented way. Also looking forward to the requisite Johnny Greenwood score. Counting the days.
Focus Features Wins Untitled Paul Thomas Anderson Pic With Daniel Day-Lewis | Deadline DDL confirmed, releases late 2017, set in London not New York.
It is good to see him working at this pace after he started taking very long breaks in between Punch-Drunk Love, There Will Be Blood, and The Master. It seemed like he might have started a Kubrickian pace.
Underrated/under-appreciated film, in my opinion. It was probably my second-favorite film of 2014 (behind The Grand Budapest Hotel - what is it with Andersons, amiright?). I get where a lot of people came from with respect to the criticism of it: that it was confusing, that it felt like a bunch of scenes strung together rather than a coherent film, etc. but honestly that's just the nature of that particular story. I read the novel before seeing the film and it actually nailed the tone and pacing pretty well. It also did cut out a chunk of the book's material (including a trip to Las Vegas that isn't in the film). I don't know, I find myself defending that film way more than I feel it needs to be defended. But I'm a PTA fanboy so I'm also very biased.
Reading the novel first may have been the reason why I wasn't in love with the film. Both solid, but the novel was brilliant. IV is one of PTA's weakest, IMO
First time I saw Inherent Vice, I liked it but was slightly disappointed because it cut my favorite parts of the novel out. Since then, I've grown to love it for what it is and find myself rewatching it almost monthly. It might be my favorite PTA movie now
