What an incredible round from Rory yesterday though. He’s probably so pissed at himself for his other rounds
I am gutted for Rory but hoping he can turn this finish into “hey, maybe I shouldn’t overthink everything and just go play golf.” When he’s on fire like he was on Sunday, only peak Tiger is more compelling, to me.
First round of the year Saturday. Even if I shoot 120, nothing beats your first round of the season... and it's my birthday.
I played last night in St. Paul MN, in snow, sleet and 35* temps with consistent 20 mph winds and gusts up to 40 mph. It was the best 43 I’ve ever shot.
Jealous of you who were able to get out this weekend. I'm not as brave as my fellow Minnesotan who posted earlier. Was banking on being able to get one or two rounds in during this long weekend I have but not looking like it will happen. Crowded leaderboard at the RBC Heritage with quite a few likeable players in Lowry, Varner III and Straka in contention. Another player I go back and forth on cheering for-Jordan Spieth--would be winning this tournament by at least four strokes if he didn't psych himself out on four-foot gimme putts. The dude has a case of the yips.
Spieth wins it. Two straight Easters he has won a tournament. Next Easter is Masters weekend. File that away for those who gamble :)
I actually am more intrigued that they aren't including PGA players to this one. Makes it a little more exciting I think. I also have to assume that they can't bring Phil back to the match right now so they decided to pivot and just go all athletes and no pros?
Yeah, I guess to get some decent ratings out of it they decided to go just all-NFL if Phil wasn't going to be involved which probably speaks to the current state of golf. As a diehard golf fan, I selfishly wish they would have paired two of the football players with a couple of PGA stars like Morikawa or Rahm to get some crossover exposure for them. Maybe they would have gone that route if DeChambeau didn't just have surgery? I'm so interested in how Mickelson re-enters the golf world. Currently, he is in hermit mode which may be self-imposed or is PGA-sanctioned. It's hard to tell. He filled out paperwork to play the US Open in June so it will be interesting to see if he shows up for that. At this point, I am guessing he is going to lay low while the Saudis roll out their league and then may just join that league at some point down the line depending on how it takes off.
Shot a really good 37 this morning. It’s still awful weather in MN, but I had a gap in my morning and faked a few calls to go play. Our season is only 6 months at best most years and we are already down almost a month with this shitty spring (44 and cloudy today). I bought new irons for the first time in 9 years this off-season (Mizuno Pro 225) and they are worth every penny. Could never afford them if I hadn’t missed two years worth of concerts with COVID, so that’s the silver lining I’m taking.
I just recently switched over from TM to Mizuno for my irons. I got the Hot Metals. They are supposed to arrive in two weeks. I'm stoked. Everyone I know who play Mizunos rave about them and say they will never play any other irons.
They aren't wrong. I played them in college and then moved to something more forgiving as I graduated, started working, got married and had kids and stopped playing as much. I finally have a good rhythm the last two years of COVID between family stuff and practice time, which made me feel like taking the leap back in. They don't get nearly the publicity they should, but they're the best feeling and performing iron line made anywhere, for my money. The Hot Metals should serve you very well!
That's awesome. I can't wait until they arrive and I get to start using them. I'll report back for sure.
