I kind of fell off on Gaslight Anthem after “Handwritten.” Listening to this, I feel like this fills that void that’s been empty since then.
Always enjoyed Mark’s taste when he used to have his podcast/blog. He said “Penelope” by Pinback was one of the best songs and he wasn’t wrong.
I felt his endorsement played a big part, yeah. Gotta give Turnstile their flowers for writing awesome music, great marketing and knowing how to run with the hype, but it never felt like they were turning heads outside of the hardcore scene until Tom posted this in the week leading up to the Glow On announcement. Even on here they weren’t very popular or talked about much at all. I think the Glow On cycle would’ve been a success regardless, but not nearly as much or as immediately without all those eyes being put on them in a crucial moment
He’s playing Cleveland in two weeks and it’s at the House of Blues, but the balcony is closed off and it’s not sold out - which is weird because he played Cleveland last November at what would be a similar sized venue as a non-balcony show at HOB and that show sold out 3 months in advance and tickets were going for $100 on Stubhub.
Idk if I agreee with this. Grog shop capacity is 420 and Cleveland HOB is 1000. Balcony aside I don’t think it accounts for that much of a difference.
I thought HOB main floor was 700 (with balcony 300ish). I could be wrong. Also though Grog was 500+ Kind of wish this show was at Beachland.
I was at the grog shop once in 2007 and I remember it being tiny. He's also playing like 3 shows in ohio so I wonder if that affects the ticket sales.
It's pretty cool! Just went for the first time this past weekend to The Dear Hunter show. They really leaned into the face that it's a repurposed bowling alley lol
I wanted to go to the Senses Fail show. Not a big Senses Fail guy by any means but would have gone just to see The Roxy and I do like LINAWR but I had other stuff going on that night.
I can’t remember if you’re into Foxing and/or The Hotelier but they just moved their show from Beachland to Roxy.
