Opening 5/6 song run of Lean Into Life is his peak. Second half of the record I like every song but it doesn’t feel as essential.
As far as milkman, the chorus is fun as hell but it’s gonna take a while for the we didn’t start the fire of the verses to grow on me
Finally got a chance to listen to this and I think it's really solid, although I agree with the general consensus that it's not as immediate as Lean Into Life or USA. But overall pretty good! My hot take is that Spirit Animal is actually great lol
Been listening to this a lot yesterday and today. It has definitely grown on me a ton and I really like it, but the first part of Spirit Animal is still real rough imo. (And I also still don’t like the verses in Milkman.)
I think this album suffers more from a sequencing issue, rather than a songwriting issue. The songs themselves are very good
Loving this more and more. Don’t really have any complaints. I do agree that the title track would make a great closer, but it also works as an opener for me. Walla did a great job on the production and I think the songwriting is as strong as ever.
i spoiled all the singles for myself, but the back half of this album made me feel so many things. excited to listen again this evening.
Spirit Animal and Bucket of Water are so so good, especially once you get acclimated with the strangeness in the beginning
As Two People Drift Apart wrecked me, that should come with a warning. I've now heard the singles, will update once I can spend time with this whole thing.
Just a heads up the closing track might be a tough one too, I still haven’t been able to listen to it more than once
He’s become one of my top current artists. I’ve connected with his music in a way I don’t often find myself capable of anymore
It’s crazy how he isn’t bigger than he is, especially with some heavy hitters within the music industry being huge fans of his and have actively promoted him (Blink, Zach Bryan, The Lumineers, Death Cab, Manchester Orchestra, etc) within the past year or so.
those last few lines.. it's wild when someone puts words to ideas you've previously had. petey is masterful at this.
I feel like it might be tough to separate being a really funny guy on Tik Tok with being a super earnest singer-songwriter. Even though that’s I how discovered him (sharing joke video to listening to his songs), I’m not sure how much of a pipeline that is.
