“Peter Pan & Wendy” introduces Wendy Darling, a young girl afraid to leave her childhood home behind, who meets Peter Pan, a boy who refuses to grow up. Alongside her brothers and a tiny fairy, Tinker Bell, she travels with Peter to the magical world of Neverland. There, she encounters an evil pirate captain, Captain Hook, and embarks on a thrilling and dangerous adventure that will change her life forever.
But why does the animation of them flying look so cheesy? Like, if you were going to allocate the majority of your SFX budget to anything…wouldn’t it be that?
I was gonna say it's also wild because he directed Robert Redford's last movie but sadly that prestige belongs to The Russo Brothers
I’m about 20 min in and this is already a cut above a lot of remakes. Still “cheesy” but it’s supposed to be
Yeah got about 3/4 of the way through with my kids tonight before they had to go to bed (we started late), but I really like it so far. Definitely get that Malick comment now with the framing and setup of several shots as well as a few story beats that surprised me. Also the little Lost Boy with the glasses is a straight up dead ringer for my nephew and it was distracting as hell every time he was on screen. Now to figure out which one of them is the evil doppelgänger. Will update accordingly.
Okay finished it tonight and uh, yeah, I thought this was fantastic? Second half was even better. I loved the direction they took with Pan and Hook’s relationship and the ending was surprisingly emotional. Some beautiful cinematography in here as well (Tiger Lily riding the horse silhouetted against the forest at night, Wendy’s happy thoughts about her future, the mirror image when they’re first flying to Neverland, etc.). I even loved Wendy and Tinkerbell’s relationship in this version. No animosity, instead replaced by mutual respect and understanding which leads to a satisfying moment between the two of them at the end.
didn’t love this as much as i’d hoped, but still a pretty good take on a favorite story, and some amazing visuals. i think i still prefer the 2003 version.
