Nylon interviewed Pete Wentz: Plus, the idea of making a pure throwback record left Wentz with a bad taste in his mouth. “Whenever artists that I love, filmmakers and bands that I love, say that something is a ‘return to form,’ I’m like, ughhhh. He’s a multi-millionaire, how is he going to make speed metal?” Wentz says. “People think they want that, but if we do it, you won’t like it. And it’ll feel inauthentic.” more Not all embedded content is displayed here. You can view the original to see embedded videos, tweets, etc.
That's part of the point he's making -- that the new album is NOT intended to be a "throwback" record. It has elements of older sounds and styles, but they still view the new album as the next step forward in their growth and evolution, rather than nostalgic fan service.
i ran into a friend friday night who recently attended the listening party for fall out boy's upcoming album and he told me about the experience. he summed it up to saying if they had never broken up, it would be the follow up to Folie à Deux, just straight up rock and roll mixed with some brass & strings here and there, no edm, no 'stadium' songs, there are some pete wentz spoken word interludes on there, he said about 3, and one of them had ethan hawke on it, but over all he said it was rad and he wished he could of went back to certain parts to hear them again so that's promising!
No record of theirs has aged better than FAD. If this is just a continuation of that growth, I’m all about it.
right? all the posers came around AFTER they went on hiatus, i bought that shit day one on compact disc!!
It's a great album, no doubt. And I loved it from day one as well. But I still think Infinity keeps rising to the top of their catalogue year after year (for me, at least.)
I remember in the early to mid 00s part of my daily websites routine (along with ap.net) was seeing if Pete had posted a journal entry. It’d always be laced with new song lyrics so it felt like getting a peek into the next album. Those were really fun days.
