This was perfect (for lack of a better word). Instantly one of my favorite films. There’s something so beautiful and comforting watching Hirayama just allowing himself to feel anger, frustration, jealousy, and sadness while also still feeling joy, empathy, taking pride in his work, and just generally being content with the moment he is in.
Grey area for sure. It didn’t get a US release until February I think? Either way, I think it would top my list for 2023 or this one.
