Airbnb's are definitely way cheaper than most hotels especially if you're okay with just a room, we used it our entire northeast trip, although it worked out in most places that it wasn't any more expensive having our own place.

The key is just trying to find a place that's not right in the heart of the city, in Boston and DC we were right on the outskirts so it made it cheaper

Staying in someone else's place always makes me super uncomfortable, so I opt for the hotel 99% of the time. Even though it's more expensive.

 

I'd be so weirded out doing an airbnb that's just a spare bedroom of someone

Some of my old roommates travel all over the world every summer and they just end up striking up a conversation with random people on the street and crashing on their couch lol

The only place we didn't have our own place was in Boston and ngl those 2 nights were hard to fall asleep lol but we were probably in our room for only 10 hours total we were out the rest of the time
