It’s just always been something I’ve wanted to do. I love the language, the culture seems amazing, from what I’ve heard the people are really nice. Just seems like a great place. I’ve pretty much forgotten all the Japanese I learned in school but I’d love to be fluent one day and that would force me to use the language

 

It's definitely the best for English language teaching in Japan, pays for your flight, helps with housing, has a community to fall back on, best hours, flexibility with time off/sick days, etc.

yeah I don't even know why I was just hoarding it for no reason. My supervisor was even the one who kept suggesting using it because they know I am a fantastic worker, I just take no breaks.

Why some Japanese pensioners want to go to jail

 

I told @ComedownMachine I am going to ask the spanish class girl if she wants to join me and go to the Fresno County Fair so let's see if I can do this and not be a coward.

 

Japan also has a staggering 99% conviction rate or something like that and a horrible criminal justice system where they can hold you prisoner for weeks without a lawyer, not to mention that many elderly end up dying alone because of shame/stigma/bullshit cultural values discouraging asking for help. So this is terribly sad to see but not surprising.

Yeah, there's a lot I like about the society and culture, then there's the staggeringly backwards side to it that makes me question everything, lol.

Well it's just like anywhere else. There are pros and cons. They're an incredibly clean, overall respectful, beautiful society with great public transportation, incredible food, natural beauty, anything you can really ever want. Then they have their own set of issues, many of which come about because they are a collective society, while we are more individualistic. But look what we deal with because of that - more crime, gross cities, terrible public transportation, much more disrespect for those around us, etc etc. I know if I go to Japan I am making a choice of one lifestyle over the other, and I know as long as I go in open minded about what I am going to experience and willing to not try to mold an entire society into what *I* personally want I am going to be alright.

 

Oh, that's all definitely true and something I considered mentioning in my last post--I'm just lazy. :P

I do like how clean everything is and a part of me still dreams of one day living there.
