this is basically all i've wanted to listen to this week (besides charli a few times). he did it again folks
is it just me, or if you compare the three album covers in this series so far, with each new release all the shapes are starting to converge in on making a picture of Dave's face? there was no overlap on the Phoenix cover, but that started changing with Havasu, and now with Santa Cruz you can start to make out a faint figure.
Not just you, I believe it was discussed briefly earlier in the thread. Seems to be a gradual focus on his face throughout the project.
This is quite good. I kinda fell off them a bit (at least during the last album cycle) but definitely back on board now. They are playing Chicago tomorrow with Squirrel Flower in the round (so a floor show) which sounds like a fun time. I haven't seen them live since the pandemic, and there are hella cheap tickets on resale.
I had never listened to Pedro The Lion despite so many of my favourite bands listing Bazan as a key influence. Saw they’re playing a few UK shows in September so got myself a ticket. Downloaded this new record and Control and really enjoying both. Any others I should listen to before the show?
Phoenix is essential, in my opinion. The recent sets have had a few each from Achilles Heel and It's Hard To Find a Friend. You really can't go wrong with any of those.
also dive into Bazan's solo music. all the albums are good, but Blanco is one of my all-time favorites.
yeah if you are liking santa cruz definitely check out some of his solo stuff. probably what i’ve enjoyed most from him in recent years
Hate to be that guy, but genuinely think it’s worth it to just make it through all his albums across his many projects. Pedro the Lion, David Bazan, Headphones, Overseas. And Lo Tom are all great and listening through everything when I first got into Bazan is one of my favorite music listening experiences to this day. If had to recommend just a few though, Curse Your Branches, Care, and the second Lo Tom album.
