So, so, so excited for this. Phoenix is one of my all time favorite albums. Didn't care much for the last LP— hoping this is great.
Hell yeah this rules, pumped this is coming. Last one took some listening to grow on me and it's still not my most favorite but it has some good tunes on it. Really digging the granddaddy-esque synths at the end.
Modesto instantly grabs me, unlike anything off Havasu (which took 5-10 listens per song, outside of First Drum Set). Reminds me a good mix of Achilles Heel & Phoenix!
I'll defend Havasu as I fully believe the dour mood of the album is a great representation of how depressed he was while living there. I'm stoked and hopeful that we get some tour dates today or soon. Having seen Dave do both a living room show a handful of times and PtL live, I'm so happy that he's back doing this regularly. PtL is one of the foundational bands of my youth. Edit: I'll also say that I recall Dave saying that Covid really fucked up his motivation to write and record.
i also get Bandcamp notifications from Big Scary Monsters (his European distributor), and the text for the album listing also says it's a 5 album series
