You’re where I was 2 years ago haha. One of the many late 80s/early 90s alt/slacker rock bands I got into once I turned 40 and stopped being picky.
Love Pavement. The Hard Quartet album from last year is great too. Still need to check out the Jicks.
I think in the past two years, Pavement has risen to a top 10 band for me, but also in that time, the solo SM/Jicks work has maybe risen to top 5...I can't believe how much his later material is rising above the band's discog for me. Listening to Mirror Traffic currently and deciding firmly this is my favorite release of his. What a true fucking star I hope I can meet him someday.
yes, the Jicks albums but if no one has put their fist down for the records David Berman was making at the time, especially his final beautiful suicide note as a motherless and faithless man pushing 60 - and those songs were perfect. Pavement is like the band that keeps on giving - I became a minor fan around 16 in 04, until boom i discovered Crooked Rain and a whole new world opened. And that same feeling? Brighten the Corners - Embassy Row alone is going to be remembered as the slacker guitar hero bible. Slanted? The primordial ooze from which this all springs and is finally appreciated as a classic in a world of its own. I miss David Berman every day and its hard for me to still listen to certain Pavement stuff becasue of it, but i'd be doing my ears a giant disservice. Also, went to the 2011/12, idk time flies, first reunion tour and it totally sold my roommate as to how great they are. Also a sick memory
