Patterns in Traffic - Lights & Reflections (July 1, 2022) Album

Discussion in 'Music Forum' started by Patterns in Traffic, Jul 1, 2022.

  1. My second full-length solo record is out today! It was four years in the making and I'm pretty proud of it. It's about half alt-rock jams and half quieter acoustic fare, so hopefully you find something in there you dig if you are kind enough to give it a shot.

  4. Listening to this now! Wow! You've got a little Hoppus in your voice!

Four tracks in and I'm loving the range on this so far, great blend of guitar and electronic flourishes. A lot of your melodies remind me of something Ryan Key would write. There's so much I loved about pop-punk and emo growing up in this, but more mature and fit to my tastes now. "Beautiful Surprise" is lovely. Great work, I'll pop back in once I reach the end of the record!

  5. Thank you so much! Most of my early influences were late 90s/early 2000s alternative rock and emo, so there's definitely some Blink, Weezer, and Andrew McMahon in the DNA alongside stuff like Matchbox Twenty, Third Eye Blind, Goo Goo Dolls, and Incubus.

"Beautiful Surprise" is one of a couple happy songs on the record, which is kind of new ground for me. In the past I had a lot of trouble writing those kinds of songs without them feeling corny or trite. I really like that one - and I got to play a little slide guitar on it, which is always fun. Thanks for listening!

  6. Yes! Andrew McMahon was the other point of reference I heard, but I didn't want to do too much comparing! It's really just such a great mix of the music I loved growing up, but like I said, more mature. I can't wait to throw on the second half before bed.

And I'm always a sucker for slide guitar haha. There's a good amount of that on our record, too.

  7. Dropping some updates here!

A couple weeks ago I was a guest on the Something in the Wilderness podcast, a song-per-episode exploration of Andrew McMahon’s catalog, and had an awesome time discussing the Jack's Mannequin deep cut "Orphans" and my music as Patterns in Traffic. I recorded a cover of the song which was featured on the episode:

Also, I am half of the pop punk duo Harsh Lights with the incomparable @Eva89 and we are dropping our first full-length album on May 19! We've been working on this one for three years and we're super proud of it, so if you want to hear some big, catchy pop punk with me yelling a lot louder than I generally do in my solo work, I implore you to check it out! I just created a thread with tracklist, album art, and links to the three songs we've already released.
