I actually like Soul Bleach in all its Machine Head at their most nu metal way, and wish the rest of the album sounded as fun... which is the key element their music has been missing since this stylistic change. If you're going to write euro influenced alt metal like this, at least make it campy.
Needed something to listen to and went "oh yea that Parkway Drive came out didn't out, I guess I can put that on" Boy that sure was a post-Atlas Parkway Drive album. If A God Can Bleed is absolutely the worst song they've ever made lmao. The rest of it is fine if unmemorable. Soul Bleach I guess is the best song? From the Heart of Darkness is decent enough too. They're gonna keep absolutely killing at rock festivals though I'm sure
Alright, I gave this a a full listen at work yesterday and it’s better than I thought. Still solidly in the OK category but if you accept it as cheesy arena metal (think some of the more radio friendly Slipknot) it’s enjoyable enough. The closer is still the best song
I really love The Greatest Fear. Ground Zero just doesn't hit at all as a good first song for me at all. Yeah some mediocre stuff here on first listen but it may grow on me as a whole. I loved Reverence. I love some of the guitar tones on here for sure though. (Realized that the album cover is the Glitch single artwork, but the face split open showing the statues inside head/skull whatever.)
I was all in on the stinky sounds until the last album, some pretty bad songs on there. Hope this stinks better
I really loved Reverence after finding Ire indifferent. The newest one I maybe tried twice. Didn't care for it aside from Glitch and The Greatest Fear. I am "cautiously optimistic".
The drop off from even Atlas to Ire was already unfortunate even if Ire is still fun enough, then Reverence is like, fiiiiine but still just makes me want their first 4 albums. And then Darker Still had actually atrocious songs on it lol
Ire was sick with the dokken riffs but it was just downhill from there. I completely agree with you and it’s unfortunate since their first four albums are some of the best in the game!
Just came across this, they did a 20 year anniversary tour in Australia/doing one upcoming in Europe and only did a medley of Killing With a Smile??? They sound great though, wow. Winston can still pull it off even only doing the vocal style he does now for the past 10 years. What a shame they only do what they do now.
